New Single Family Housing Permits increase in Williston

Williston Economic Development - New housing construction is on the rise in Williston, but it's still not at the level city leaders had hoped. Williston's Director of Development Services announced earlier in 2018 that the city would need up to 500 single family homes per year for the next 11 years to meet estimated demand. Mark Schneider explained the city is basing its housing goals on the 2016 NDSU Statewide Housing Needs Assessment - Population and Housing Forecast which estimated Williams County to grow by 68 percent through the year 2029. Developer to build 36 Single Family Homes near Williston High School
The new single family homes will be built along 44th Avenue in Williston. City of Williston
KEYZ Radio - It's called the Vista West Development and it's just west of Harvest Hills and Williston High School. The City Commission has voted to allow a developer to break ground on a project that in less than a years time turn out 36 single family dwellings in Williston. "The city approved 25 single family lots and 11 single family twin home lots, last night, that's about 8.2 acres of land," said Mark Schneider, Williston Director of Development Services. Community has Mixed Feelings on Proposed Fee-Based Liquor License Ordinance

New Lunch Pad launched in Downtown Williston
The first Lunch Pad in Downtown Williston attracted a few food vendors and a lot of diners. Williston Economic Development
KUMV-TV - The Williston Downtowners Association debuted the Lunch Pad Thursday in the lot of the former Hedderichs building. The event started with free yoga and featured yard games, food trucks and music. Read More
Williston to allow More Sidewalk Amenities in Downtown Williston

Williston Herald - The Williston City Commission voted unanimously at Tuesday's meeting to amend the city's ordinance regulating the use of sidewalk space around businesses. Rachel Laqua, principal planner for the City of Williston, presented the proposed change, which will allow businesses to utilize portions of city-owned sidewalks for display purposes.  Read More
1 Million Cups to feature Fresh Fit Kitchen, CrossFit Vokse Sept. 5
Williston Economic Development - The owners of two popular startups in Williston will share their success stories at 1 Million Cups in September. Blair and JW Sheering are the owners of a unique while Kallie Bratlien owns the popular crossfit gym. The presentations will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Teton Lounge on the Williston State College campus. The meetings are free and open to the public!
Watford City's Twist Drive-In now offers Mexican Food
Tariq Bashir and his two cousins are running the Twist Drive-In in Watford City which now offers Mexican food and specialized services.

McKenzie County Public School District enrolls 300 New Students
McKenzie County Public School District recorded a 300 plus increase in students this year.

Steve Holen, McKenzie County Public School District No. 1 superintendent, knew that Watford City's schools would see an enrollment jump when school started Aug. 23. Just a week earlier he said  the district had already registered just over 1,700 students.  But when 1,836 students showed up on  Thursday it was a surprise. Roundup - For lifelong Alexander residents Jim and Barb Jacobson, Old Settlers Day is a time to celebrate a year's worth of agriculture. The couple will be honored at the 73rd annual Old Settlers Day in Alexander from August 30 through September 1st. The Old Settlers Day tradition  features a parade and beef barbeque, cooked under coals in a pit. Read More

Help clean up Williston from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Supplies and refreshments will be available at Davidson Park. There will also be roll-offs for used tires (four maximum), metals and other materials. Help keep Williston clean and pick up up trash in your neighborhood, business, boulevards and parks.
