Introducing Kinsey
DRHS shelter mascot

Kinsey came to the DRHS on the PetSmart Charity's Rescue Waggin.'   He came from an overcrowded shelter in Louisiana.  Kinsey is two years old and loves attention.

Staff noticed Kinsey had an injury to her hind leg so our friends at Tri-Vet Associates in Farley, Iowa performed surgery to repair Kinsey's kneecap.  He spent the first few days healing at the home of Maria Benham, DRHS President. Kinsey is recovering swiftly from his surgery.  He greets all of our visitors at the DRHS as he spends his days at our front desk and his nights as a loved member of the Benham family.

Featured Pet

Ed is a pit bull terrier mix found as a stray in the Dubuque area. On December 1, he was made available for adoption and has been waiting for someone to come and take him home ever since! Ed knows how to sit and shake. He loves to spend time with you, no matter what you're doing. He is happy playing with toys, being outside, or just lounging around so long as you are near.

Change in Services:

Boarding: To help us continue to accept and save homeless animals from overcrowded shelters across the nation, we will no longer board owned animals.  If you need temporary or long-term boarding services there are many options in our community including veterinary clinics and hospitals.

End of Life Care: In order to provide quality care for our homeless animals at the shelter, we will no longer be able to provide some ancillary services such as owner-requested euthanasia and cremation services. Owner-requested euthanasia services should be consulted with your regular veterinarian with whom you and your pet have become familiar.
