Soaring Demand for Data Science Drives Dietrich College Momentum
As the use of digital information transforms business and daily life, an innovative approach to data science across academic fields is fueling a popularity boom at CMU, in what was once a quiet corner of the academy: Statistics.

The number of undergraduate statistics majors has nearly quadrupled since 2010 and has grown more than twenty-fold since 2005.
Celebrating the Arts in Society
Projects from CAS' latest mission- the Performance Initiative -were on display at the Miller Gallery recently, and they announced their latest focus: Narrative.

Co-led by Felipe Gómez, associate teaching professor of Hispanic Studies, they will approach the topic of narrative with the idea that all aspects of human expression and production are embedded with stories.
RoboTutor Named Global Learning XPRIZE Finalist
Led by CMU's Jack Mostow, RoboTutor is educational technology that incorporates cognitive tutors pioneered by Dietrich College researchers.  
 
"This is incredibly exciting for Jack and all of Carnegie Mellon, and I would not be surprised at all if they ended up winning the entire competition," said Richard Scheines, dean of the Dietrich College. 
DACA: A Long-held Dream With CMU and Pittsburgh Ties
The History Department's Michal Friedman has been involved in several projects that focused on immigration reform, including the documentary film, "Dream Acts: Sueños en Vilo."  
 
The film tells the story of undocumented minors in Pittsburgh who were not protected from any immigration laws and were living their lives in fear of deportation. 
Public Health Communicator Makes a Global Impact
When researchers in Latin America and the Caribbean needed to collaborate on HIV/AIDS, Tim Ryan (DC '96) conceptualized and developed an information and communication system.  
 
At the time, he was "only" a technical writer associated with the Mexican National Institute of Public Health.
