8-1-2012 Fnbplanet: Anyone remember the currency (printing) machines that they bought for $15 million last October? What if they weren't for printing the NEW currency, but for printing the OLD currency?
They would already have had the approval and designs grandfathered in, so they wouldn't have the required Kurdish language on them. They could be used as a "bridge" currency until the NEW stuff is printed.
It may be that they're sitting on some of the OLD smaller denoms (I can't find proof it was ever printed, can you?).

Baghdad - Haider Fleih al-Rubaie : said the Securities Commission that the stock trading volume rose during the second quarter of this year to approximately (239.7) billion dinars (187.9) billion dinars during the first quarter of the same year, an increase of (27.6 percent), recording the volume of high total (12.3 percent) compared with the second quarter of the year, asserting that the banking sector came through this chapter of the year ranked first in terms of volume, which reached about (172.5) billion dinars at a rate (71.9 percent) of the total, as was the industrial sector II with a trading volume (28) billion dinars at a rate (11.7 percent) of the total, and occupied the agricultural sector the third place through the achieved volume close to (20. billion dinars at a rate (8.7 percent) of the total .

I set down at the table with the lady there and told her I wanted to open a NIB account, She leaned over the table, smiled, and in a low voice said "is this for Dinar" I said yes, she said I know exactly what to do and proceeded to set me up with all I needed, then introduced me to about 3 other people in the bank and treated me like a King. I only put $190. in the account to open it.

I got to talking to her and when she found out I was a local police officer for 27 years she started opening up more. She told me that they were prepared for dinar exchange. She told me more and all of a sudden changed subject to her 18 year old son.

The Central Bank closed shop banking is approved

Farhad Atrushi said: "There was a suggestion for the oil and gas and legal committees to hold a meeting on Wednesday to choose one of the three oil and gas drafts but the meeting was postponed and we don't know when we will meet to start a discussion about the draft.
Iraqi Army carries out Exercise with life ammunition

Baghdad (NINA) : The Iraqi Army conducted a "live-fire" training exercise on July 17 as part of an ongoing effort to improve its military strategic skills. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, through the Office of Security Cooperation in Iraq (OSC-I), supported the Iraqi-led exercise as part of its commitments under the Strategic Framework Agreement.
A statement issue on Tuesday, July 31, by the Embassy of the United States said, "The exercise, which featured American-made M113 armored personnel carriers, and the "live fire" use of mortars and artillery, demonstrated the Iraqi Army's capability to plan and train for realistic combat scenarios. The exercise also introduced Iraqi junior officers and soldiers to the effects of direct and indirect fire."

Total to hunt for oil in Iraq's Kurdish north

BAGHDAD (AP) : French oil giant Total S.A. said Tuesday it has acquired an interest in two oil exploration areas in Iraq's Kurdish north from Marathon Oil Corp., joining U.S. oil majors Exxon Mobil Corp. and Chevron Corp. in the self-rule region.
The deal threatens to worsen tensions between the Kurds and Iraqi authorities in Baghdad, who insist the country's energy resources should be managed on a national level.
Total and Houston-based Marathon said the deal will give the French company a 35 percent stake in the Harir and Safen blocks, which are located northeast of the regional capital Irbil. They cover areas of 705 and 424 square kilometers (272 and 164 square miles) respectively.

The federal government has provided the supplementary budget to parliament last week for a total of $ 9.8 trillion dinars (about $ 10 billion) were distributed among two trillion dinars for the projects of the Ministry of electricity and 1.4 trillion for the ration card trillion dinars and allocations to the Ministry of Defence. The Cabinet had approved the third of this month on the supplementary budget of 10 billion dollars.

Washington (IANS): US President Barack Obama Tuesday announced new sanctions against foreign banks that help Iran sell its oil.
Obama said the latest round of sanctions is to "deter Iran from establishing payment mechanisms for the purchase of Iranian oil to circumvent existing sanctions".
China's Bank of Kunlun and Iraq's Elaf Islamic Bank have been targeted for "knowingly" enabling financial transactions for blacklisted Iranian banks, Xinhua reported.

Just months after the U.S. military departed, violence in Iraq is increasing. Hundreds of people have died in recent weeks in bombings and drive-by shootings, some claimed by al-Qaida insurgents.
