According to the financial reference websites BankRate.com and BankingQuestions.com, there are, as of December 2010, no laws, either state or federal, that explicitly prohibit you from keeping money in a safe deposit box.
In fact, there are no federal laws at all that restrict what you place there. While certain items are, of course, illegal for people to possess and store -- stolen property, illegal drugs, banned weapons -- cash is not one of them.

Tell me PLEASE if you have a valueless currency and no way to incentivize those who could bring "investment" (infrastructure, manufacturing, construction, transportation and other goods and services) to your country and no way to pay them in some kind of usable currency why go thru the exercise and why expect international corporations to appear at a cost of travel, the temporary loss of their top personnel during the meetings and for a null effect?

The United States on Monday night for fear of the outbreak of the political crisis in Iraq after being sentenced to death in absentia on Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi.
The U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement to the media, "We are concerned about the strong escalation of violence from all sides and call on the leaders of Iraq to continue to try to resolve their differences within the framework of the rule of law."

Babinaoz - Agencies: political source revealed the presence of 39 arrest order issued against prominent figures, pointing out that it would be implemented in a period of very close.

BAGHDAD : Iraq's government has given foreign diplomats a rare look inside a refugee camp housing Iranian exiles, as Baghdad seeks international help resettling them in another country.
Baghdad's Shiite-led government considers the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq a terrorist organization that is living in the country illegally. The government organized Tuesday's visit to Camp Liberty outside the capital, where 2,300 members of the group live, to speed their departure.

Baghdad (AIN) : The USA expressed concerns over possibility of "Out breaking a political crisis in Iraq after issuing the death penalty verdict against the Vice President, Tareq al-Hashimi, who refuges currently in Turkey."

[BWM] There are those that say it will happen tomorrow... but it's 9/11 and I just can't see it going down that day... all timing and other such things aside... I know I could try to justify it in my mind but honestly, I just can't see that scenario working out
[BWM] now on to the finance conference in London next week... the more I try to rationalize it the more it seems unimportant to me... they did this last year and shabibi is a keynote speaker at a financial summit and as much as we'd like to make it about iraq's currency and it has to happen before because they don't want to look stupid... let's face it, this will be another dog and pony show to get ppl to "invest" in Iraq... there will be like most conferences "promises" of a bright future and all the oil you can absorb in your shoes...
[BWM] I know this sounds a bit negative but I guess where I'm getting with this is here... I have always had "ranges, windows, concepts and scenarios" in my mind as to when I thought this could/might go down... as of this exact moment in time... I don't have one of those to look toward... I'm still hearing "anytime" and I can see it after Tuesday and I know so much has been done for this to show but I feel many are looking at incorrect indicators as to why and when this must go down...

BAGHDAD (AKnews) : An official from the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) revealed Tuesday the bank is preparing new strategies to unify the exchange rate of foreign currency in the country, noting that it is seeking to invest the amounts spent to serve the economic stabilization plan.
The deputy governor of the CBI Muzher Mohammed Saleh did not comment on the new strategies.
Mohammed said the CBI is mainly responsible to maintain the economic stability.
