Siemens receives order from Iraq for power plant components
September 12 2012
Siemens will supply Khormala gas turbine power plant in northern Iraq with four SGT5-2000E gas turbines and four SGen5-100A generators along with the associated auxiliary and ancillary systems.
The customer is the KAR Construction and Engineering Company Ltd., which is erecting the Khormala plant for the independent power producer KAR Group headquartered in the city of Erbil. Commissioning is scheduled for 2013. The order value for Siemens is over EUR 100 million.

DNO International's Benenan-3 well in Iraqi Kurdistan finds oil

Norwegian oil and gas group DNO International announced that the Benenan-3 well in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq has encountered movable oil in the Bekhme formation.
Testing is currently ongoing to acquire additional data.
Benenan-3, located in the Benenan field in the Erbil licence, will be completed as a horizontal producer in the Najmeh formation, which was oil bearing in both the Benenan discovery and appraisal wells.
Following Benenan-3, the rig will be mobilized to drill the Bastora-2 development well in the adjacent Bastora field, also in the Erbil licence.

Tell me PLEASE if you have a valueless currency and no way to incentivize those who could bring "investment" (infrastructure, manufacturing, construction, transportation and other goods and services) to your country and no way to pay them in some kind of usable currency why go thru the exercise and why expect international corporations to appear at a cost of travel, the temporary loss of their top personnel during the meetings and for a null effect?

Iraqi government opens refugee camp to diplomats, hoping to resettle Iranian exiles elsewhere

BAGHDAD : Iraq's government has given foreign diplomats a rare look inside a refugee camp housing Iranian exiles, as Baghdad seeks international help resettling them in another country.
Baghdad's Shiite-led government considers the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq a terrorist organization that is living in the country illegally. The government organized Tuesday's visit to Camp Liberty outside the capital, where 2,300 members of the group live, to speed their departure.

Washington fears strong political crisis in Iraq over issuing Hashimi's verdict

Baghdad (AIN) : The USA expressed concerns over possibility of "Out breaking a political crisis in Iraq after issuing the death penalty verdict against the Vice President, Tareq al-Hashimi, who refuges currently in Turkey."
The Spokesperson of the US Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, said "We fear a strong escalation in violence from all sides in Iraq," she added "Calling upon the leaders of Iraq to continue their attempts to settle the existing disputes within the framework of the state of law."
