Diocesan Council receives amended report on Corporation Sole,
endorses recommendations for adoption by Diocesan Convention
Diocesan Council, meeting November 10, unanimously accepted an amended report from a special committee formed to study Corporation Sole, a 109-year-old portfolio of assets for which the incumbent Bishop of Los Angeles is trustee.
The amendments submitted by the special committee are as follows:
"1. The special committee does not endorse the resolution from the 2015 Diocesan Convention to transfer all properties held in Corporation Sole to the Corporation of the Diocese at this time.
"2. The special committee does believe that transparency and governance of Corporation Sole is of utmost importance and should be addressed without delay.
"3. The special committee recommends that it be authorized to continue its work in collaboration with the Bishop, the Bishop Coadjutor-Elect, the Chancellor of the Diocese, and representatives from each of the following: the Standing Committee, the Diocesan Council, and the Corporation of the Diocese; and then to report to the above and the 2017 Diocesan Convention with recommendations."
Council commended the work of the Special Committee Concerning Corporation Sole, a panel formed by Convention action in 2015, and unanimously recommended that the 2016 Diocesan Convention adopt the recommendations of the special committee outlined in these three amendments.
Council further encouraged review of the amendments during upcoming Deanery Assembly meetings scheduled as follows:
