Special Diocesan Convention Issue

To the 450 or so who have registered for Diocesan Convention in Sacramento this year, welcome!

Look for your copy of the convention booklet online in a few days. No wifi is available on the convention floor, so you will need to download it for your device before coming to convention or print it out. One printed copy will be on each table. If you don't need to see all the printed reports, most everything else you need for convention will be in your packets you'll receive at check-in.

The convention check-in begins at 1 p.m. Nov. 3 in the lobby; the first business session begins at 3. Dinner is on your own after the 5:45 Eucharist, which features, in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Church, a special sermon by ELCA Bishop Mark W. Holmerud of the Sierra Pacific Synod.

Convention reconvenes at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 4 with special reports from our companion Diocese of Honduras, a presentation from an Episcopal Church official, and much more. We hope to conclude by 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Late registration closed at the end of the business day today.

McClellan Conference Center is at 5411 Luce Ave.; turn west on Palm Street off Watt Avenue.

If you have not reserved a hotel room yet, there are still rooms available at
Hampton Inn and Suites, 2230 Auburn Blvd., (916) 927-2222, and a couple at Holiday Inn Express, 2224 Auburn Blvd., (916) 923-1100.

Last minute changes to your delegation happen! However, registering and communicating about those changes in advance helps us all to avoid confusion. If someone from your congregation's delegation changes, please make sure to let us know. This is especially critical if an alternate or substitute is not on your Certificate of Lay Delegates. If this is the case, you can revise your Certificate of Lay Delegates right up to Convention by emailing Elizabeth Vang.
Alternates and visitors do not vote at convention (unless an alternate formally takes the place of a registered delegate, by reporting to and filling out the correct forms at the registration desk). However, it is wonderful to have alternates and visitors attend, as convention is a time to learn and connect with others, and gather resources to take back to their congregations.

Don't forget: this year's free pre-convention gathering, Music Makes Community, featuring Ana Hernandez, will be held Friday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the McClellan Conference Center. Register here; deadline is tomorrow, Nov. 1.
Bishop Distributes $25,000 to Help Those Affected by Fires

Bishop Barry Beisner has disbursed $25,000 from his discretionary fund to parishes in our diocese that were affected by the fires earlier this month, and 100 percent of those funds are being used for fire relief and related redevelopment. Please continue to be as generous as you can, as the needs continue to evolve. To securely give online, go to www.norcalepiscopal.org, click on the button that says "online giving" and follow the instructions. From there, add the amount you wish to give and choose Bishop's Discretionary Fund from the drop down menu. We are grateful your generous response!
Reminder: Time Change
This Sunday

It's time to fall back. Turn your clocks back one hour before you sleep and avoid coming into church at an awkward moment (for you. Being good Episcopalians, we will pretend not to notice.).

Help the Rev. Olga Barrera as She Fights Cancer

Many of you know and care for  Olga Barrera,  a priest of the Diocese of Honduras, who, a few years back, spent several months living and ministering among us as part of her formation for ordination. Olga has recently started treatment for cancer. Bishop Barry asks that you join him in praying for God's help and healing.

Bishop Allen of Honduras has asked that we also join in contributing to cover the cost of her treatment. The Rev. Sean Cox of Faith, Cameron Park, graciously has offered to manage our donations so that any money we raise will directly benefit her.

Those wishing to contribut e should send checks to  Faith Church , marked "Tela." You may also give online by clicking on the fund "TELA Hondurus."
