Episcopalians from St. George’s, Texas City are gearing up for the annual Strawberry Festival, hosted by Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Dickinson. There will be more than homemade shortcake and pounds and pounds of strawberries. This year, Holy Trinity will focus on bringing resources to their Harvey affected neighbors and St. George’s is bringing the “hope.” Click here .
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) recently recognized St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Wharton as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical Marker. The designation honors St. Thomas’ as an important and educational part of local history. Click here.

The Diocese of Texas needs to fill 600 additional shifts at the Episcopal Church’s General Convention, July 5-13 in Austin. In response to Hurricane Harvey, Texas ESC has partnered up with organizations in Galveston County to aid in recovery, rebuilding, and reforming community. We believe that there is immense value in learning about what relief, recovery, and coping look like in the wake of natural disaster. Events and Deadlines
The Episcopal Diocese of Texas seeks a full-time executive director for St. Vincent’s House (SVH), a social service agency of the Diocese located in Galveston. SVH has served the disadvantaged, underserved and working poor population in Galveston County for more than 60 years. A primary service focus is healthcare provided through a clinic staffed UTMB medical students and faculty doctors. SVH served more than 15,500 individuals in 2017 in the clinic and through 10 additional offerings. The board seeks an individual who will help lead the organization through a transformation in the next two to five years. The Discovery Retreat is a weekend gathering about discovering how God given gifts and talents might be used in the mission of the Church. St. Thomas the Apostle, Nassau Bay is featuring a world class art exhibit of contemporary Russian iconographer Ludmilla Pawlowska through August 10.  Icons in Transformatio  also includes a number of traditional icons painted in Russian monasteries. The exhibit ,  which has toured cathedrals throughout Europe and the U.S., includes more than 160 pieces throughout the church campus and nave. Adult formation leaders from Austin area churches invite you on Saturday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m. to hear Presiding Bishop Michael Curry speak about discipleship. There will be formation opportunities leading up to this event as well as following centered on “Becoming Disciples.” Contact the  Rev. Shannon Preston  or call 512.476.3523.
If you have responsibility for communications at your church, please plan to attend the Austin area communicators lunch on May 9 at the Diocesan Center at the Seminary of the Southwest at noon. Lunch will be provided and we will have a demonstration of Canva and discuss using social media. Please email  Carol Barnwell  if you can attend so we can have a count for lunch. If you have particular topics you would like to discuss, please send those in your email. There will be follow up conversations via Zoom online.
Join Lord of the Streets for their annual luncheon, Wednesday, Mary 16 at the Junior League of Houston. The keynote speaker of this event will be J.R. Richard, Former Houston Astros All-Star Pitcher. Since 1990, Lord of the Streets has welcomed and addressed the holistic needs of those who are homeless in Houston’s downtown and Mid-town. All rising 4th-6th graders are invited to spend the weekend at their Cathedral! Activities include a campus scavenger hunt, sleeping over in the Treehouse youth space, serving in the community, riding the Metro and worshiping at the 9 a.m. service along with their families Sunday morning. This weekend will introduce our intermediate students to the life-long call of service and worship while learning the value the Church and world place on their unique gifts and talents.
