Tackling Behavior Challenges
Start with one thing at a time. Then come up with a plan. Know what your expectations are, and make sure to communicate them to your child. Be specific so that the change is measurable and your child is accountable. Give your child time to change - expect two steps forward, one step back. Recognize and praise positive change and effort. Remember to get support for yourself. Families First has lots of free parenting classes and groups to help, such our Discipline series (see above) and Parent Recharge, to give you a break.

Article2Try This
Create a Cloud Jar

cloud jar

Create a cloud jar to learn how clouds fill up before raining. Cover a table with newspaper. Give your child a jar two-thirds full of water. Put shaving cream all over the top of the water. Fill a cup with colored water (using food coloring). Have your child use a dropper to add colored water on top of the shaving cream. Watch carefully as the color increases and makes its way through the "cloud" and then drops through the shaving cream into the clear water below. Read Tomie DePaola's The Cloud Book to accompany this experience!
