Good morning!

Do you tend to worry?  Maybe its a news story. A sick child. An unexpected bill. A phone call late at   night. Whatever the situation, do you dwell and mull it over endlessly?

I can have some of those tendencies. I am always thinking, "What if?" I have been known to lay awake at night trying  to anticipate all potential scenarios, sometimes to the point of losing sleep.

We all know what it's like to worry about something... it's a regular companion for many of us. As it turns out,   so are its close cousins: fear and anxiety.  A nxiety disorders are the most common mental health   issue in the United States. Approximately 18 percent of adults and eight percent of children and teenagers   have an anxiety disorder.

Anxiety, while related to worry, is different in that it's persistent, ongoing and broader in scope. While we   can usually work through our worries to find a solution... not so with anxiety. Anxiety is excessive worry   about multiple things, even when there isn't anything wrong. Anxiety can sometimes fill people with dread, fear and   apprehension. They anticipate the worst and are always wary and watching. It also expresses itself   physically. They feel tense and irritable. Their heart races. Their stomach feels sick, and they can't sleep.   Some who struggle with anxiety have panic attacks-which often feel like a heart attack-bringing on even   more anxiety.

Anxiety can take on a variety of forms. A person can be anxious about life in general or about specific things.  Some forms of anxiety bring on OCD like behaviors, such as checking, cleaning,   picking and counting. Whatever its shape, anxiety makes it difficult to function in relationships, work and the   responsibilities of daily life.    As a result, people sometimes can feel more anxious because no matter   how hard they try to let go of anxiety, it simply won't let go of them.

This Sunday we will be concluding our series Stranger Things with a look at Fear and Anxiety. I hope you will join us as we take as look at what the Bible has to say about hope for the anxious heart.

Discovery's HUGE Giving Goal!
All through December
As a church family Discovery has always been committed to being outwardly focused. At the end of the year we like to look for ways we can make a HUGE impact for the Kingdom of God. This year we want to focus our end of year giving on two priorities: International Missions and Local Church planting. Our goal this year is to bring in $100,000 in offering during the month of December to help further our work in El Salvador and to assist in launching One Church in the Chartiers Valley in March.  This year Discovery will contribute more than $200,000 to international missions and church planting!  Will you join us in meeting our HUGE giving goal?
Discovery's Claymation Christmas Series
All through December
The Rankin Bass Claymation Specials from the 1960's through 80's are some of the most kitschy and confusing parts of the American Christmas tradition. Many of these stop motion animations have very odd storylines and very little redeeming value.  But they sure are fun and memorable!  At Discovery we like to say that we do not take ourselves very seriously... but we do take God very seriously. So what if we used these fun and nostalgic films this December to help us illustrate the infinitely more important and eternal purpose of Christmas.  For unto us a child was born in the city of David - a savior, who is Christ the Lord!   Join us all December long!
