Good morning...

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year!  Every year I look forward to the traditions that   Stacie and I have created for our family.  Traditions are a big part of Thanksgiving... and every   family in   America has their own way of celebrating. From stuffing the turkey to watching football... traditions are   what we remember from our childhood and pass on to our children if we have them.

What traditions does your family celebrate?  Do you fight over the wishbone from the turkey? I remember   breaking the wishbone and making a wish every year with my younger sister.  In case you   are un   informed... this is the tradition of tugging on either end of a turkey's Y-shaped furcula bone to win the   larger piece... and if you do, your wish will come true.

Did you know that this tradition dates back to the Etruscans of 322 B.C.... that's over 300 years before   Jesus!  The Romans brought the tradition with them when they conquered England and the   English   colonists carried the tradition on to America. Traditions can often be passed down for centuries.
But what is Thanksgiving really supposed to be about? This Sunday we will continue in our series, defined, by looking closer at this word Thanksgiving. Not just the holiday, but the way of life.  As a follower of Jesus gratitude and thankfulness are supposed to be byproducts of our relationship with Christ.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday... and that you will plan on joining us Sunday. There will be no turkey served... but we will provide Alka-Seltzer for the communion juice... per Discovery tradition.

Discovery's HUGE Giving Goal!
All through December
As a church family Discovery has always been committed to being outwardly focused.  At the end of the year we like to look for ways we can make a HUGE impact for the Kingdom of God.  This year we want to focus our end of year giving on two priorities: International Missions and Local Church planting.  Our goal this year is to bring in $100,000 in offering during the month of December to help further our work in El Salvador and to assist in launching One Church in the Chartiers Valley in March.  This year Discovery will contribute more than $200,000 to international missions and church planting!  Will you join us in meeting our HUGE giving goal?
Discovery's Claymation Christmas Series
All through December
The Rankin Bass Claymation Specials from the 1960's through 80's are some of the most kitschy and confusing parts of the American Christmas tradition.  Many of these stop motion animations have very odd storylines and very little redeeming value.  But they sure are fun and memorable!  At Discovery we like to say that we do not take ourselves very seriously... but we do take God very seriously.  So what if we use these fun and nostalgic films this December to help us illustrate the infinitely more important and eternal purpose of Christmas - for unto us a child was born in the city of David - a savior, who is Christ the Lord!   Join us all December long!

Discovery on Mission
One of the main goals of Journey Groups is to serve together to connect more and more people with Jesus.  While all Journey Groups engage in serving, this group is highly committed to consistently helping others throughout our community.  Each visit we'll engage in different projects and objectives to serve others throughout the year in local missions each week.  If you would like to be a part of this group mark your "flap" on Sunday or if you have questions, please contact Nick Ranjan.
