Greetings!
The New Year ushers in new beginnings, and as such, I have the distinct pleasure of serving as the 2018 Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. As your District 1 Representative, I am busy working on a multitude of projects. Progress is being made in many corners, including but not limited to, marijuana cultivation, county road rehabilitation, homelessness, mental health issues, and safety on our waterways. Marijuana Tax Measure
on
June 2018 Ballot
At the February 6th Board Meeting, we passed a motion to place a tax measure on the June ballot. This measure intends to tax commercial cannabis operations in the unincorporated areas of Yolo County. Here's what will be on your June ballot:
"Shall a tax be imposed on marijuana businesses in unincorporated Yolo County, subject to a citizen's oversight committee, at a variable rate between 1-15% of gross receipts, with a 4% initial rate on cultivation, and 5% for any other marijuana business, to help fund services such as criminal enforcement of illegal cultivation, early childhood intervention and prevention, youth development, rural infrastructure or any other general governmental purpose for an indefinite duration?"
Also discussed was an update and potential action on early development agreement implementation, development of the comprehensive land use regulations, and the RFP process for nursery and processing facilities. We will once again be taking up land use and development agreements at our March 6, 2018 meeting.

Yolo's Youth Construction Program wins a 2017 CSAC Challenge Award
The Yolo County Probation Department, in collaboration with the Yolo County Office of Education, Communicare, and Northern California Construction Training have put together an award winning program. The California State Association of Counties presented an award to Yolo County Probation because it is such an innovative program in county government. At-risk youth are able to participate by attending a specialized classroom in the morning and paid work in the afternoon. Students must complete the morning assignments before they leave for their afternoon job. The structure of the program and the student's individual accountability is the key to success. Inside the classroom on a daily basis is a probation officer, a credentialed instructional aide, a credentialed teacher and a licensed therapist. This win-win program helps at-risk youths acquire jobs and avoid incarceration. For a link to the video click here.
