Superintendent's Message

Dear RBHS Students, Families, Staff, and Community,

We saw the end of another successful school year last week when the Class of 2016 graduated. We had hoped that this would be the first graduation ceremony in the new Kennelly Athletic Complex; however, Mother Nature did not cooperate. The decision had to be made early in the day in order to allow time for set up. A severe weather front rolled in right around the end of the ceremony. However, I was happy to see that the storm did not dampen the spirits of our young men and women graduates. The commencement exercise was exciting, and the smiling faces are unforgettable. Congratulations Class of 2016! Please come back to visit and share your new experiences.

But time marches on, and we are preparing for the start of the next school year. The summer break has begun, and I hope that the staff and students will use this time to relax so they will be ready for an exciting 2016-2017 school year.

Below are some items of interest from our District.

Cordially,

Kevin Skinkis, Ed.D.
The Life Safety/Capital Improvement Projects
The next phase of our Life Safety/Capital Improvement Projects will begin on June 6. The summer construction includes roof replacement on sections of the main building and a new floor and bleachers in the main gym. Entrance G on Ridgewood Road will be closed from June 6 through August 15, as this will be the primary staging site for the construction.

Contract Negotiations
The Board of Education and Riverside Brookfield Education Association (RBEA) are involved in contract negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement for "Teachers and Support Staff." The current contract expires on June 30, 2016. Four to five productive bargaining meetings have already occurred, and "Tentative Agreements" have been reached on multiple contract items. The next session is scheduled for the week of June 20.

Litigation Update
Litigation continues to move forward with the Village of Brookfield in regard to the School District building a parking lot on its own property. The District continues to believe that a solution can be found, which permits parking on both School District property and Rockefeller Avenue, so as to adequately serve the needs of the school community.

Board of Education
The Board of Education will have only one meeting per month during the summer months. Meetings will be held on June 14, July 12, and August 9, 2016, in Room 201 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Information regarding Board meetings can be found on the RB website under the Board of Education tab or watch the meetings on www.rbtv.tv

Principal's Message

It is hard to believe that this school year has already ended! We have said goodbye to the 353 students that comprise the 108th graduating class of RB. This fall the Class of 2016 will be attending 80 different colleges and universities in 20 different states. Three students are due our profound appreciation for joining the military to serve our country. We wish them all the best of luck as they continue to grow and experience new educational opportunities.

We also say goodbye to Diane Marelli and Mary Jahnke, who are retiring at the end of this month. I would like to thank them for their dedication to helping all students reach their potential.

As we look forward to next school year, please mark your calendars for our annual residency event, which will take place on J uly 13, 21, and 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additional information about scheduling your appointment for one of these dates will be emailed home later this month and can be found on the RBHS website.   Students entering grades 9 and 12 have additional health requirements to fulfill prior to the start of the school year. Incoming freshman students will need a current physical and updated immunization record. Senior students will need to show proof of receiving two doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccination (MCV) unless the first dose was administered after 16 years of age. In this case, only one dose after 16 years of age is required. For more information about both of these requirements, please visit the RBHS Health Office website.

Have a safe and restful summer break!

Kristin
