Thank You, Principals!   #thankaprincipal

October is National Principals Month. Superintendent Gordon honored all of our principals at the Board of Education meeting earlier this week. Help us continue to thank our outstanding school leaders this month on facebook and twitter by using the #ThankAPrincipal hashtag.

Community members are welcome to come and visit with Board of Education members this Saturday, October 22, 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the District 41 Central Services Office, 793 Main Street in Glen Ellyn. Board members are happy to take questions on topics such as facilities, budget and the long-range plan, to name a few.

All are welcome!

Special Education Programs and Services Analysis

District 41 is in the process of conducting a Special Education Programs and Services Analysis. The consultants working on the analysis are in the process of conducting focus groups with parents, staff and administrators. The focus groups will continue through November. They will also observe classrooms and review state, comparable districts and District 41 special education data. The district will receive a comprehensive report, including recommendations, in February 2017.

Community Survey

A community survey will be mailed to all households in our district boundaries over the next couple of weeks. The district is looking for your feedback regarding overall satisfaction with our schools and the district as well as your thoughts on possible facilities solutions. We thank you in advance for your time filling out the survey.  Your feedback will directly impact our decision to possibly go to referendum in the spring of 2017.

Facilities Information Sessions

If you would like more information about school facility needs, including a review of concept plans, join us for any of the below Community Facility Information Sessions. Sessions will be held at the District 41 Central Services Office, 793 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn.

Wednesday, November 2, 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Thursday, November 3, 7 p.m.

The sessions will include a display of facilities concepts being considered by the Board of Education to address facilities needs at all of the five elementary schools.

Forest Glen Teacher Chosen for Illinois Teaching Policy Fellowship

Forest Glen music teacher Keira Quintero was selected to participate in the 2016 Illinois Teaching Policy Fellowship at Teach Plus from October 2016 through June 2017. Teach Plus recruits and selects Illinois Teaching Policy Fellows from across the state to participate in the cohort experience.

"I wanted to be part of Teach Plus and the education policy fellowship so I can be an advocate for what is best for students in our district, our state and our country," said Mrs. Quintero. "The cohort of educators will work together to pinpoint policies to address. I personally am passionate about advocating for equitable school funding in the State of Illinois as well as working towards proper implementation of ESSA. I am thankful for this opportunity to be a voice for our students."
