The unveiling of NAMIC and WICT's biannual diversity employment survey for the cable industry highlights the industry's annual Diversity Week festivities which kicked off Tuesday.
Deadline
Female executives and senior-level managers in the cable telecommunications industry have made "measurable progress" in employment opportunities since 2015, according to a new survey. It also found that the representation of minority professionals in the cable industry "exceeds the national benchmark at all levels" - except on boards of directors, where representations "is on par with the national benchmark at 15%."

GMA Network, the most internationally-awarded broadcast company in the Philippines, joins big names in the global media and entertainment industry after its global arm GMA International (GMAI) brought home three top awards from the 2017 NAMIC EMMA in New York.

Radio remains the leading "reach vehicle" for Blacks and Hispanics in the US, notes Nielsen in a recent study [download page]. However, the radio isn't the only device being used for audio: with 81% of Black adults and 91% of Hispanic adults using smartphones on a weekly basis as of Q4 2016, these devices are increasingly being used for streaming, per the report.

A new initiative called "Project Unbound" strives to close the diversity gap in entertainment both in front of and behind the camera by raising awareness, supporting emerging storytellers, and creating more inclusive content.

The 30-day period between September 15 and October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month, and YouTube is taking some time to honor the hard-working creators in its community who fit that identity. It has launched an initiative on its YouTube Spotlight channel that includes multiple playlists dedicated to the content produced by Hispanic and Latino creators, including Lele Pons, Eric Ochoa, and Bethany Mota.
