Surprised? Latinos Care More about Education than Immigration
Hispanic adults long for excellent neighborhood schools that offer all children access to quality education.

by Rev. Samuel Rodriguez via Christianity Today

When the Pew Research Center published results of a recent survey, some were surprised that immigration was not the top issue for US Hispanics. What was the issue more Latinos deemed a top priority for the new administration and Congress? It was the improvement of our educational system. Hispanic adults long for excellent neighborhood schools that offer all children access to quality education. Latino culture is focused on faith and on family, so nothing is more important to us than ensuring the next generation has the education and opportunity to excel.
Unfortunately, there is much work to be done before every child graduates from high school with the skills needed to succeed in college or a career. Low standards have particularly affected low-income and minority families.

Choose Greatness

My wife, Amy, and I were speaking at a conference in England several years ago. We had arrived tired and jet-lagged and immediately tried to go to sleep but after two hours I was still awake.

I dressed and walked to the lobby of the hotel hoping the exercise would help me relax. It was just after midnight and a couple was checking in at the registration desk. Their anger quickly woke me up.

Weekly Devotional

Our Children, Our Future
by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews

A note to our readers: The Jewish celebration of Passover takes place over the next eight days. For each day of Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, we will offer a devotional reflection tied to this very special observance as well as Torah readings for each day. Since no work can be done during the holiest of these days, these devotions were prepared in advance for you .

"In days to come, when your son   asks you, 'What does this mean?' say to him, 'With a mighty hand the   LORD   brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.'" - Exodus 13:14
Today is Day 3 of the eight-day Passover celebration. The Torah reading for today is from Exodus13:1-16.

The first night of Passover is filled with excitement as we begin the special meal called the Seder. Friends and family gather together as holiday aromas fill the air. In addition to the regular holiday table décor, we add a Seder plate with six items that will be used or mentioned during the Seder. For example, a shank bone represents the Passover sacrifice and bitter herbs symbolize slavery. There is plenty of matzo and an assortment of fine wines or rich fruit juice for the "four cups" that we drink during the Seder. But even the most exquisite table is incomplete without the main centerpiece: Our children.
