Stand Up for Grain Engulfment Prevention Awareness Week | April 9 - 13
Welcome to National Grain and Feed Association's (NGFA) & Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA)
“Stand-Up for Grain Engulfment Prevention Awareness Week”
April 9 - 13, 2018
Made possible by the NGFA-OSHA Alliance in collaboration with Grain Elevator and Processing Society, stand-up week promotes grain bin safety on both farms and at commercial grain handling facilities.
TODAY'S TOPIC: GRAIN BIN ENTRY
During each entry, all employees should make sure that that they are performing their responsibilities by identifying and eliminating potential hazards and executing the task safely.
Do not enter alone and make sure someone outside of the bin knows you entered. Make sure to lockout unloading equipment, such as augers, before you enter to ensure they are not turned on by mistake.
If necessary, determine if the atmospheric hazards are present and could be controlled. Make sure you secure a lifeline – a harness, rope or ladder – to the proper area.
Try to stay out of the bin if at all possible - the number one way to keep yourself safe is by prevention. Above all, do not shortcut your safety - education is key.
