Child Abuse Prevention Month

Here at Pendleton Place, we know that not everyone is fortunate enough to have a happy childhood. Children and teens who come through our doors have been removed from their home not because of what they have done, but because of what has been done to them.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is a nationally-designated month to acknowledge the importance of communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Pendleton Place is proud to partner with Children's Trust of South Carolina, the state's affiliate organization for Prevent Child Abuse.

Last year, 17,662 children were abused and/or neglected in South Carolina. Greenville County has the highest number of any county in South Carolina at 1,821 children. The need is here, and children are relying on you to help provide them with a safe and hopeful future.

Prolonged or extreme stress and trauma in a child's life, also known as adverse childhood experiences, interfere with healthy brain development and can lead to learning and behavioral problems as well as long-term health and social issues.  Children who are abused and/or neglected are at a high risk of repeating this cycle.  You have the power to prevent this cycle and stop child abuse.

The Mission of Pendleton Place is keep children safe and support families in crisis through prevention, assessment, and intervention. When children enter foster care due to abuse and neglect, we work to protect, equip, and heal these vulnerable children.

When you support Pendleton Place, you are helping children overcome the trauma of abuse and neglect.

Make a gift today and help break this cycle of abuse and neglect.

Volunteer Appreciation Month

Not only is April Child Abuse Prevention Month, but it is also Volunteer Appreciation Month! Our work would not be possible without the dedicated support of many individuals, churches, businesses, and groups who have invested in the Pendleton Place Mission.

This month we would like to recognize, groups like  First Baptis t Church and Greenville Tech  who have volunteered to work on different projects around our facility. Thanks to a very generous donor, Smith House is in the process of redecorating. A group from St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the family and friends of Augustus Dicks painted and cleaned the living room, hallways, and kitchen to help prepare and freshen up the space before new furniture arrives. We are excited to show you the finished product soon!

Our Smith House residents have received a lot of attention lately! Many groups like Newspring Church and the Women's Group from Brookwood Church  have provided warm and delicious  meals. Members from Clemson FCA  visited with our girls and had a movie night. The Nearly New You Committee from the Junior League of Greenville hosted a pajama party and provided each girl a new pair of pajamas and a duffel bag.

If you want to learn more about our volunteer opportunities, please reach out to our Resource Development Coordinator, Ruth Hays, through email . Thank you!
New Partnership

Providing a residential program for teenage girls has many associated costs that you might not necessarily think about. One such cost is the purchase of a bra that fits properly. This can create a financial burden not only for Pendleton Place but also for our teen girls. We are excited to announce a new partnership with the South Carolina affiliate of Support the Girls. With this new partnership, Support the Girls has committed to meeting all the bra needs for our Smith House girls. This organization will work to get at least two new bras for each girl placed at Smith House. This partnership with Support the Girls is a huge benefit for our Smith House girls. This will allow our girls to be able to use their clothing allowance from DSS for other basic clothing needs. We are thankful for our community partnerships who believe in our residents and want to support them any way they can.
