Our Savior's This Week

Dear Church,

When Alvin Rogness was president of Luther Seminary (wow, this makes me feel old!), he shared this story at a chapel service, and it has stayed with me for all of these years.

"I was visiting an elderly woman in her home one warm summer day, and I asked her how she was getting along.  Her response both surprised and saddened me.  This is what she said,

'It's July.  I just love July.  I never die in July. I've lived 83 years and I've never died in July.  I love July.'

"And I came away thinking 'Just because it happened once, it doesn't mean it has to happen     twice. Just because it happened 83 times, there are no guarantees for it to happen an 84th time.
We must never take God's goodness for granted. Every day is a gift: be thankful for it!"

I don't know; maybe it's because lately I've seen some peoples' plans cut short.  Death, or illness, or job changes, or relationship changes have occurred and, therefore, everything that was assumed, and perhaps taken for granted, went up in smoke.

As you make your way through summer, and as I make my way, let's agree to be grateful for all that God gives us every day.  The sun or the rain, the times we are surrounded by loved ones and the times we have to reflect in solitude, the times of leisure and the times of hard work, the ability to laugh, and cry, and feel, and think, and love.  What was it that wise person, Anonymous, once said?

    Yesterday, is gone

    Tomorrow is not yet here
    Today is a gift...
that's why it is called "the Present!"

See you in church,

(but not for three weeks...Vacation calls!)

Announcements

prayerThis Sunday, join us for a two week
sermon series on PRAYER.

Prayer is the most universal practice in all of religion.  A Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim, and a Buddhist may not agree on the purpose of prayer or to whom one should pray, but they do all agree on the need for prayer.  This week we will listen in as Jesus prays for us.  What would you like Jesus to pray for on your behalf?  Invite a friend to join us for this two week opportunity on prayer.

We need your input!

Fall Faith Formation registration is almost here! We are sending out a pre-registration survey to help us plan for fall. If you have children ages 2 years through 8th grade, or if you are able to teach a faith formation class, please take a couple of minutes to let us know your plans. Thank you!  Click here for survey or click on the link from our website.

Messy Ministry Community Night is tomorrow! (June 27)

Come one, come all!  Enjoy a picnic supper at 5:30 pm then engage in messy games and activities!  Dress to get dirty and wet!  Not sure you like messy things?  Bring a lawn chair and cheer the teams along.  LADC friends will be here to have special messy activities for little ones.
The next Community Night will be July 11.  We'll be having fun with windy things as we celebrate the Holy Spirit!

Bible Study in the Park on July 10th

All women of Our Savior's are invited to gather at Valley View Park on Tuesday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. for Bible Study in the Park.  The theme of the summer study is Along the Way.  Have you ever taken a summer road trip?  If so, you know the conversations you have along the way are an important part of the journey.  In July, we will look at "Food for the Journey" and Dawn Alitz will lead us on this journey.  A continental breakfast will be provided.  No cost to this study - just a free will offering.  See you there!
