time spent at Sequoia Family Camp. It is a combination of the big trees, the hiking and wandering, being away from internet and cell service (most of the time), and spending time with my family and others with an "it takes a village" mentality that keeps me going back for more.
Sequoia Family Camp is a decades old tradition of Camp Stevens', started by John Horton when his kids were small. We gather Sunday for dinner at Camp San Joaquin an hour from Visalia, and spend the week playing, day-tripping and sight-seeing in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, enjoying meals together, singing around a campfire, and resting in the woods.
I hope you'll consider joining us this summer, July 30 - August 5 among the sequoias, or for another Camp Stevens family program in Julian!

Registration is now available for all our adult, family, and youth programs including Adventure Sessions, Wilderness Trips, and Memorial Day, Sequoia, Harvest, and Thanksgiving Family Camp!
Please know most programs were at capacity rather early last year. You only need a deposit of $100 to reserve your spot, so set your calendars and register early!

Did you know: Camp Stevens hosts FOUR family programs a year!
What constitutes a family? You tell us! Bring a family of four, your group of friends, an inter-generational collection of folks, or your partner: there's something for everyone. Registration is easy - just visit

Memorial Day Family Camp (May 27 - 29) boasts all the traditional summer activities: swimming, tie-dye, campfires and songs, hiking, garden fun, and of course Camp Stevens incredible, home-cooked meals.
Sequoia Family Camp is off-site, Sunday dinner - Saturday breakfast at Camp San Joaquin, our host site (July 30 - August 5). Enjoy your family in the company of others exploring the national parks and resting away from cell service (but still with flush toilets!).
This fall, join us to celebrate the abundance of the harvest at our
Hoe's Down Harvest Weekend October 13 - 15. In addition to the usual family camp activities, we'll be sure to spend time in the dirt and the kitchen and usually get the Cobb oven going for pretzels or pizza.
Finally, our longest running family program at Camp Stevens:
Thanksgiving Family Camp (November 23 - 26). Program includes activities, crafts, soccer and football, and of course Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.

We're delighted to announce that the ground has been broken, both in celebration and in actuality: our permit for the Bergstrom Lodge was issued last Wednesday and construction began yesterday morning!
The Bergstrom Lodge, which will provide private, comfortable accommodations to guest groups and honor the leadership legacy of Peter and Vicki Bergstrom, is set to open by the end of the year.
