From Gary...

Wow, January is history already. The older I get, the time flies by even faster. Wild West Bass Trail started with a bang at Lake Oroville with 167 Boats at the team event. This is a giant field for the west. We also had 132 Boats at Lake Shasta for the first Pro-Am of the year. Ryan Friend won the event on a Float-n-Fly technique. Ryan collected $20,000 for a few days of fishing. Even well before this event we'd been asked for longer Champion Series spinning rods. So, last December I started on 6 new models of Champions. They'll be 7'3", 7'9", and 8'4" lengths, provided I can get them just right. I've been through two set of samples and still making tweaks to them. So stand by for mid-season launch. The 8'4" is a difficult build for length and balance. If I can get it perfected it'll be an outstanding Float-n-Fly rod. I'm also working on a complete new series that's finished and ordered. It will surprise some Dobyns followers!

Our drought is not officially over but all our major NorCal reservoirs have been releasing large amounts of water for a while. We're in great shape for a change. Spring willow trees and new brush growth will all be flooded. The spawn survival rate will be great with all this new vegetation. We'll have great fishing for several years strictly because of the great rains we've already had. I wish we'd get some new reservoirs built to hold some of this excess water. We don't get many years like this one!! Spring is around the corner. Make it a priority to get some kids on the water as soon as it warms up a bit. These kids are our future anglers and they'll face many new regulations and problems to deal with. So let's get them hooked on fishing right away. They're BITING!! See you on the water!!!
