Our Mission

 

Ocean State Fresh was established in 2010 with the specific goals of connecting Rhode Island's fishermen with local consumers, ensuring that fresh and local seafood stays fresh and local, supporting the local fishing industry and promoting sustainable seafood. Ocean State Fresh is accomplishing these goals through the conception of a Community Supported Fishery program in Rhode Island and through the creation of the first statewide brand-name open to all of those in Rhode Island's fishing industry.

This Week's CSF Delivery!   

  

monkfishThis week's CSF delivery will feature Monkfish, a.k.a. Anglerfish, Frogfish, Goosefish or Sea Devil. According to FishWatch, Monkfish is harvested at sustainable levels and the stock is considered healthy.  If you have not had Monkfish before, it is quite delicious.  It has a taste profile similar to lobster and can be prepared in many ways.  We have provided some Monkfish recipes below for inspiration.  If you are not part of the CSF or would like to purchase an additional pound of Monkfish, please click the link below.

If you are interested in signing up for a share, there is not a deadline.  You can purchase one by clicking here.  If your share is about to expire or has already expired, please consider renewing your subscription.  Our CSF will be running year-round!   Also, please keep in mind that pick up time is shortened .  It will now be from 4-6 p.m. on Fridays at Pier 9 in Newport.  Should something unexpected come up, feel free to have someone pick your share up for you.  If your share is not picked up by 6 p.m. on Friday, the Rhode Island Department of Health requires us to discard the share. Even though that is extremely wasteful, we still have to comply.

 

 

This Week's Dock-To-Market Offering!

 

The Dock-to-Market section will be open this week and we have a lot to offer. If you want to add something extra, Dock-to-Market is a great way to do so.  Just make sure you get your orders in by 5 p.m. on Wednesday.  Dock-to-Market purchases will be available for pick-up on Friday's from 4-6 p.m.

After a successful launch in Newport, people are asking us to expand and we want to!  We purchased a brand new refrigerated van that allows us to be more mobile.  As a result we can access any part of Rhode Island. Since we are all about helping the Ocean State, we want to be as local as possible. Instead of working with a nameless, out-of-state credit card processor we have teamed up with Swipe For A Cause.  Swipe For A Cause is a local credit card  processor that donates 50% of its profits to charity. Specifically, they use their profits to bring residential hospice to Rhode Island.  If you didn't already know, Rhode Island is the only state in the United States that does not have residential hospice.  If you wish to support Swipe For A Cause, please place your orders via e-mail and pay at pick-up.
