Power Pooch Springtime Smoothie Treat | |

Ingredients:
· 1 (8-ounce) container plain yogurt
· 1 cup blackberries or raspberries or 5 large, hulled strawberries
· 1 mango, sliced
· 1 very ripe banana
· 1 tablespoon honey
· 1 cup ice water
Directions:
Toss all ingredients into a blender and mix at high speed until smooth. Pour mixture into small bowls or an ice tray and allow to freeze. Set bowl on floor or pop out frozen cubes anytime for a cool down treat.

Here's how to get started:
1. Check with your phone provider to ensure you have an unlimited data plan.
3. Create an account using your Dogtopia of Dulles Provider Number: 20400.
The interface and data stream have room for improvement depending on your service provider, but its a fun, quick, touchbase if you're interested.

Hi Friends!
All around the area, flowers are blooming, grass is growing, pollen is blowing, and the outside temps are rising -- Spring has finally sprung in the DC metro area. Warmer weather is here to stay!
We enjoyed seeing so many of you and your pups in March and truly appreciate so many of you stopping-by to say "hello" at the Super Pet Expo. The pups also had a blast squelching 18 basketballs on the 2 Mutt Madness competition days. The Lounge Lumberjacks won the first playoff day, and the Toybox Timberwolves won the second. The Lounge Lumberjacks proudly put forth Pippa (an energetic English Bulldog) as the MVP on the first playoff day, scoring 11 baskets; and the Toybox Timerwolves once again put forth Wilson (a party-hardy West Highland Terrier) as the MVP on the second playoff day, scoring 9 baskets. We regret to report that the Gym Grizzlies ended both their games early due to foul play, penalties, and general court demolition! Check out our online photo gallery for some action shots of the playoff games as well as the March Birthday Party.
This month, we've planned a few events to celebrate your pup, including our April Birthday Party and the celebration of our 4 Year Anniversary here at Dogtopia of Dulles (April 26th). Check out our April Events section below.

Stay Flea & Tick Free | |

Flea and tick prevention is important for our canine friends year-round, but even moreso during the warmer months. No need to shy away from going on a hike or letting your dog enjoy that large backyard. A few simple considerations can help keep your dog pest free.
Treat your pup! Monthly topical, oral, and even holistic treatments are very popular in the battle against fleas and ticks. Dogtopia requires that every pup stay on a flea and tick preventative regiment. Ask your veterinarian for advice about the best treatment plan for your dog's breed, activity level and lifestyle. You should also keep in mind that many mainstream topical treatments are very hard on your dog's primary organs. For example, should your dog (or dog's breed) be prone to pancreatic flares, you may want to consider a more holistic product such as those from Earth Animal. Dogtopia of Dulles is proud to offer Earth Animal holistic flea and tick prevention internal supplements and sprays. These products are both Mattie and Zoe (Art & Taylor's pups) tested and approved!!
Tidy-up that yard! What dog doesn't enjoy sunbathing on their lawn in the Spring? Ensure that your yard is a safe place for them by cleaning up piles of wood or junk areas that may have accumulated over the winter: these areas can be hiding places for rodents, which may carry fleas. Cut down any tall grass or weeds as well -- ticks and fleas often wait on blade tips for warm-blooded pups to pass by.
Not every itch is a flea or tick! Your pup may also be suffering from seasonal allergies this time of year. The mid-Atlantic states have the highest number of reported canine allergy cases in the US. Many veterinarians recommend the use of over the counter products like Benedryl for treatment. Benedryl can be effective in treating your pup's symptoms, but often the drug has side effects like lethargy. There are effective holistic products from Herbsmith and Aunt Jeni in the treatment of seasonal and long-term allergies. Both Herbsmith and Aunt Jeni products are available at Dogtopia of Dulles, and both are Mattie and Zoe tested and approved!!

Spring Training Classes | |

Day Training: Rolling Admission
This customized 10 day program focuses on basic manners and specific behavior issues. Your dog will receive individual training each day while at daycare. The program also includes two private consults and written handouts to ensure successful training at home. $400 + daycare fees.
Basic Manners: Tuesday, May 22, 7:15pm
This 7 week class is great for puppies or those who would like a refresher on the basics. The basic cues will include sit, down, stay, wait, off, loose leash walking, and coming when called. Classes will also include discussions on problem solving for unwanted behaviors such as jumping, chewing, and excessive barking. The first class is without dogs. $140.00.
Canine Good Citizen: Summer 2012
This 7 week class is suitable for dogs who have completed the Basic Manners class or its equivalent. Focus will be on reinforcing good manners in everyday situations. This class will help prepare owners and their dogs for the AKC Good Citizen test, which will be given at the last class. $140.00.
Great Outdoors: Wednesday, May 2, 7pm This 7 week class is suitable for dogs who have completed the Basic Manners class or its equivalent. We will meet at a different outdoor location each week to reinforce and build on your dogs' basic skills out in the real world. This class focuses on coping with distractions and polite behavior in public places. The first class meets at Dogtopia in Chantilly. $140.00.
Private Lessons:
Private lessons provide a tailored training program for your dog at a time that is best for you. Whether you want to brush up on basic manners or work on a specific behavior, private training can work for you. Private lessons are also a good alternative for dogs who may not do well in a group setting or who need help with challenging behaviors such as anxiety, fearfulness or aggression. $95.00/hour (travel charges may apply). |

The Dogtopia Webcam iPhone/iPad/iTouch App is now available for download. In order to get the App, visit the Apple App Store and search for either "Dogtopia" or "ODoggy". Follow the usual App download instructions, select Dogtopia of Dulles as your primary location, and you'll be set-up to watch your pup on your Iphone!
The Dogtopia Webcam Android App is also available for download. In order to get the App, search the Google Market for "ODoggy". Follow the usual App download instructions, select Dogtopia of Dulles as your primary location, and you'll be set-up to watch your pup on your Android!

 Arlo, Week of 3/4/2012
Arlo is a 13 year young Westie mix who joined our Dogtopia ® family 2 years ago. Don't let his age fool you though! This social boy races around the Toybox with the energy of a pup. He can be seen romping with Cassia, Delwyn, Cheddar, Nemo and his favorite girl, Sandy! May we all look as good and have as much energy as Arlo when we're 91 years old.
Daisy, Week of 3/11/2012
 Meet Daisy! This adorable Boston Terrier pup joined our Dogtopia® family in January and has been stealing hearts since her first day. At four months old, she is all puppy and plays like a champ in our Toybox. Daisy may be petite but she is confident and enjoys romping with pups of all sizes including her best buddies Cooper, Cassia, Woodie, Lucky and Sugar!
Elvis, Week of 3/18/2012
He ain't no 'hound dog': Elvis is a 5 month old Australian Shepherd mix who rock'n'rolled into our Dogtopia® family in January. Knowing that only 'fools rush in', Elvis was a little shy at first, but it wasn't long before he transformed the Toybox into 'Viva Las Vegas': shakin, jumpin, twistin, and jivin (which left him sometimes 'all shook up') with his chums Mosby, Duke, Sputnik, Buddy, Daisy, and Cooper. Once in a 'blue moon' and like a true rock star, Elvis shows his 'devil in disguise' side, but what pup doesn't? At the end of his day, this 'big hunk o' love' struts through the lobby humming to his dad, 'I think I'm gonna like it here'! Congratulations and thank you... thank you very much, Elvis!!
Coco, Week of 3/25/2012
 Meet Coco! She joined our Dogtopia® family in December of 2011, and what a gift she has been! We have had the privilege of watching her blossom into a social butterfly. When she first started daycare, she was shy to leave her mom but now she races into the Toybox to see her pals. Some of her favorites are Daisy, Bentley, Sadie, Sugar, Wilson and Brutus.
