River Writers' Public Reading and Open Mic April 17

The annual River Writers Public Reading and Open Mic Night will be held Thursday, April 17th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Callahan Room of the Firehouse Center and Gallery.

Enter through the side ramp (under the red awning, in the alley), and come up to the second floor. The public reading will include poetry, prose, and short skits featuring local and visiting writers. After the reading, the mic will be open to the public, so bring your writings to share.

Please come for all or part of this event, as part of the Bainbridge Downtown Art & Wine Walk. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Rayna Andrews at riverwriters@yahoo.com. asst-portraits-header.jpg

Downtown Art & Wine Walk April 17

Don't miss the Bainbridge Downtown Art & Wine Walk coming Thursday, April 17, from 4 to 8 p.m.! Downtown businesses are putting up the work of local artists, and attendees get the first glimpse of their work, while tasting wines throughout our historic downtown!

Each business will provide wine or punch for tasting, along with edibles. Adults may purchase tickets ahead of time from Amanda Glover at City Hall for $20, or pay for the tickets the day of the event for $25. Just come to the Firehouse Gallery at 119 W. Water Street starting at 4 p.m. to get your wine tasting pass through downtown.

Local artists will be available at each location to answer questions and discuss their art and methods. Children are especially welcome at this event, and they can obtain children's passes for free at the Firehouse the afternoon of the event. Children who collect enough stamps on their passes at local businesses can turn in their passes for a drawing to win a new student art kit.

For more information and to purchase tickets, contact Amanda Glover at 229.248.2000 or by e-mail at amandag@bainbridgecity.com. For more information about the children's passes, call Cheryl Carvajal at 229.246.3225 or by e-mail at bainbridgefirehouse@gmail.com. Let's make this year's Walk the best one ever!

So-So Van Gogh Classes: Beach Scenes

Janice Rentz will instruct students in the creation of their very own beach scenes, complete with ocean, sand, and other features. (See inset below for Rentz' current art show in Albany, Georgia.)

As usual, each class runs from 6 to 9 p.m., and classes will be held in the Kirbo Room of the Firehouse. Classes are for adults only, and each evening class costs $35 to cover the cost of instruction, materials, and snacks.

Students can enter through the front double doors, facing Water Street. Students need not bring any supplies, but should wear comfortable clothing. Painting shirts are available to borrow, as well.

Interested in taking the class? Download the form HERE, fill it out, and mail it in with a check for $35 to:
