Teen Connection

Haymon-Morris Middle School teachers and support staff do a fantastic job of not only engaging students in their daily learning, but also engaging students in both the school and the community. The HMMS "Teen Connection" is a perfect example! This club is open to all students in grades 6,7, and 8. Once every month, students stay after school to attend a fun-filled afternoon.

In October, teachers and community volunteers supervised a variety of activities that began shortly after the dismissal bell. Students had opportunities to play flag football, paint, design Christmas cards, bake treats, and design using Legos. Each time a meeting is held, students work on community projects, and also sponsor a book collection campaign for the Barrow Book Partnership. The smiles in the photograph truly tell the story! As students were leaving they were already asking about the next Teen Connection meeting!

582 Letters

Every single soldier deployed outside the United States deserves to receive a letter of gratitude on Thanksgiving Day. Wanting to give our troops a "Big Thank You" with a little taste of home this Thanksgiving, students at Auburn Elementary participated in "Bert's Big Thank You".

The school goal was 501 letters, students not only reached that goal but SURPASSED it with 582 letters! Teacher Nicole Hooper said "as I sat at my kitchen table, I couldn't help but cry. Our students' letters are so sweet and heartfelt, there is no doubt in my mind they are going to bring happiness and cheer to the soldiers who receive them. I am HONORED to be part of a school family who realizes there is a big world out there past our walls, and reaches out to help take care of others. Thank you to each one who participated. You are amazing!"
