Glendale Receives AAA Bond Rating with Fitch
Future looks bright as good financial news continues.

The city of Glendale is pleased that Fitch Ratings has assigned its highest rating, AAA with a stable outlook, to the city’s existing General Obligation Bond (ULT GO) debt.

“We have a lot to be thankful for with this AAA bond rating news, which comes at a time when our economy is booming and businesses are consistently choosing Glendale as their preferred location,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “The future is bright for our city and its residents.”

Phelps says this designation is reflective of the thoughtful policy decisions Mayor and Council have made over the past several years. He credits them setting aggressive goals for general fund balances and showing fiscal restraint on new spending. He also compliments the city’s budget and finance team, lead by Vicki Rios, for continuing to work hard to be good stewards of the resources that have been appropriated by the Council.

“I’m ecstatic to hear the announcement by Fitch Ratings that Glendale has received the highest marks possible,” said Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers. “Once again, with prudent fiscal management and continued economic development, this is more proof our city is absolutely heading in the right direction.”

The Fitch Ratings report cites a strong revenue framework and sound operating performance as two important factors in the rating.

Speak Up, Stand Up, Save a Life
Since 2009, suicides among youths has increased 81%. One critical factor is the stigma associated with asking for help. On January 16, 2018, students, police chiefs, government officials, parents and teachers will get together to tackle ongoing issues involving bullying, depression, drug addiction and other ongoing issues facing our youth.  Together we can inspire everyone to Speak Up, Stand Up, and help Save a Life!  Help us reach our goal of 5,000 conference attendees in 2018!

Support our youth by attending the Stand Up, Speak, Up, Save a Life Youth Conference organized by  Lily DeBlieux  and learn about the struggles our youth face today. Your small contribution can make a big difference!  #CareEnough

The seminar will cover:
  • Improve your customer service and the experience across all aspects of your business so that customers return at a higher frequency and actively recommend your business to their friends and colleagues.
  • Drive revenue through applying the 4-ways formula.
  • Improve team member engagement so they are working at a higher level than previously and recommend your business as a place to work to their friends and colleagues.
  • Enable team members to maximize their revenue by using techniques that will increase their sales conversion rate, average dollar sale and repeat business.
  • Put in place measurement and goal setting to ensure improvements are built on over time. This program is very much in line with how you would work with a sports team – constant training and coaching to ensure a continued increase in the team’s performance.

Research shows 94% of problems that exist in a business are systems-related, whereas only 6% of problems are people-related.  The aim of our program is to put the right systems in place to ensure an increase in revenue.  These include service standards, measurement systems, sales goal sheets, sales system, coaching and people performance management, as well as on-going customer research.

Three Endangered Rhinos Arrive at Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park
Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park welcomes the long-awaited arrival of three young White Rhinos! Taking a one-way trip from South Africa, these adolescent females recently arrived at Wildlife World’s new state of the art Rhino facility.

As part of Wildlife World’s dedication to Rhino conservation, the zoo has been hard at work consulting, researching, and planning its innovative and recently completed Rhino facility that will be part of the new 9-acre Safari Park expansion expected to open in early 2018.

Over the past twenty years, Wildlife World has supplied in-kind support, staff expertise, and tens of thousands of dollars to local, national, and international organizations dedicated to the survival of the world’s most endangered species, including $20,500 to rhino conservation efforts. The entire Rhino population is at risk. At the start of the 20th Century five hundred thousand rhinos roamed the wild. By 1970, the worldwide population fell to seventy thousand. Today, only twenty-nine thousand rhinos survive in the wild.

Season of Giving
During this season of giving, the Glendale Union High School District hopes you will consider making a contribution to your child’s school. One charitable option that will benefit district students is a tax credit contribution through the state of Arizona. Arizona law provides a tax credit for contributions to public schools which support extracurricular activities and character education programs. You can help Glendale Union High School students while possibly lowering your tax bill by making a contribution.

The state tax credit is available to all   qualifying individual Arizona state taxpayers. You do not need to have a child enrolled in a school to take advantage of this state tax credit. It is always best to consult a tax adviser to learn if you qualify for the dollar-for-dollar credit. A tax credit is different from a deduction, because you may subtract the whole contribution from the amount of taxes you may owe the state of Arizona. An individual may contribute as much as $200, and a couple filing jointly may contribute as much as $400 to a public school and receive the money back in the form of a tax credit. Tax credit donations can be made online or by completing a form at guhsdaz.org .
