Dear Friends:
| | Edvard Munch's "The Scream" |
You know Edvard Munch's Expressionist masterpiece The Scream?
Well, Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire shows us what Expressionism sounds like.
Music on Main is celebrating this musical masterpiece on October 15 & October 16, 2012, 100 years after Pierrot Lunaire premiered in Berlin.
Pierrot Lunaire brings to life the strange poetry of Albert Giraud. And Music on Main returns the piece to its origins in cabaret. More details here.
The first set features singer, visual artist and improvisor Carol Sawyer with composer/pianist Lisa Cay Miller. They'll take us on a seriously fun journey from 1910s Berlin Cabaret through to today's craziest vocal sounds.
Then, after drinks and intermission, Robyn Driedger-Klassen takes on the role of Pierrot, surrounded by the cabaret-like ensemble of the Music on Main All-Star Band.
To tap into the cabaret feel, we're producing the concert with the Western Front, in their Grand Luxe Hall. (The Western Front is located at East 8th Avenue & Scotia, one block north of Broadway, and one block east of Kingsway. Here's a map.)
Don't miss this very special 100th Anniversary production; order your tickets today online, or call us at 604.879.9888.
You'll discover why Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire is a cornerstone of 20th Century art that all lovers want to know.
all best,

David Pay, Artistic Director |
