Service Spotlight
Nana's Head Warmers
Keeping heads warm one head at a time...

Thank you to Jane M Lodato for keeping our community warm during the winter season. Jane spends part of her time knitting hats and scarves and offers her hand-made items to organizations that focus on cancer patients. Jane approached VIM through a connection with a previous  student, Heather Lodato, and offered to share her hats and scarves with any VIM patients that may be in need of some warm accessories during the winter season. A box full of these special hand-made items will be offered to patients to take home. (Pictured is Janie and our student Cindy modeling a beautiful hat and scarf.)

Going Above and Beyond at VIM! Patient story...

In September, 2016,  a 61 year old female came to the clinic for evaluation and treatment of  right lower quadrant pain.   She was evaluated by  one of our PCP’S ; and subsequently referred  for a gynecological exam with  Dr. Sandra MattisonThe patient admitted to the lack of seeking medical and gynecological care  due to her inability to cover the cost of healthcare through the Affordable Care Act . For the past several years she has been employed on a part-time basis after her hours had been decreased from full-time status. Due to her income being above the qualified income for Medical Assistance, the patient suffered until she no longer  could  tolerate  the extreme pain.   After receiving a  gynecological exam by Dr. Mattison and a pap test , the patient was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix.   Through all the efforts of our Social Coordinator, Julie Lane,  Dr. Mattison,  Dr. Durelle Scott, and our Nursing Staff;  the patient is now being evaluated and treated at the Geisinger Danville Oncology Department  in Danville, Pennsylvania.    The Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program was instrumental in providing the coverage to attain health care coverage for all her impending costs.  We  can most certainly be proud of all our efforts to give this woman a chance for survival.

Best of Luck to Ned Delaney on his surgery and recovery.  We will miss his jokes at VIM while he is at home recovering. Before surgery, Ned spent a splendid vacation in Italy.

Our thoughts are with Barb Nansteil, who recently had surgery on her shoulder. Unfortunately, while doing Tai Chi in September she fractured her patiala which was also recently replaced during knee surgery.
