Terri  Runyan
Within the last decade, the City of Fort Collins has undergone transformational change. It has deliberately moved toward an open, data-driven organization focused on results. Through the development and use of a Community Dashboard and other performance measurement initiatives the organization is tracking and reporting its overall progress toward community goals as it strives to create a vibrant, world-class community.

WCPE is excited to welcome Terri Runyan, Performance Excellence Program Manager for the City of Fort Collins, Colorado to the 2014 Lean Government Conference.  Terri's keynote The It, The We and the I of Transformational Change will kick off the conference.

The City of Fort Collins has received recognition for its open budgeting process called Budgeting for Outcomes--a process that engages citizens to develop an organizational plan to provide the programs and services that are most important to the community. In recognition of this process and other accountability reporting, the City has been recognized by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) for superior performance management efforts with a Certificate of Excellence from the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement™(CPM).

Runyan has expertise in both Lean and Baldrige, and has successfully used Lean tools within a systems framework.  She worked in the health care industry for more than 20 years, leading an organization to achieve recognition with a Timberline Award and a National Nursing Quality Award. She has been an Examiner with Colorado's Rocky Mountain Performance Excellence (RMPEx) Quality Award Program for 5 years. She recently began working with the City of Fort Collins on their Peak Award application (the top level quality award in Colorado, similar to Wisconsin Forward Award).

In addition to the keynote, Terri will be presenting a breakout session, in which she will share insight into the implementation of a process improvement program in Fort Collins using a PDCA model.

Take the Challenge and move forward, faster!

Wisconsin Forward Award

Whether you have already embraced the Baldrige framework or are brand new to the Criteria for Performance Excellence, applying for the Wisconsin Forward Award can be a great step in setting your organization on the path to excellence and all that it entails - more efficient processes, more satisfied customers, a more engaged staff, and better results.

No matter where you are in the process, we are here to help you along the way.  Here are some ways to get started that require less time and expense than a full WFA application:

The Wisconsin Challenge Profile is the perfect starting place for organizations new to the Baldrige framework. The Challenger helps organizations get started by responding to straightforward questions about their organizational context and key results which will help lay groundwork for future improvement efforts-as well as future applications.

The Wisconsin Fast Forward is the beginning-to-intermediate-level application that is focused on helping organizations tell their improvement story. With no page limits or strict formatting guidelines, the Fast Forward allows organizations to focus on what they are doing, along with key results.

Wisconsin Challenge Profile and Fast Forward applications are accepted throughout the year, and each organization receives a written feedback report at the conclusion of the process.

Is innovation in your organization dependent on spontaneous breakthroughs...or is it systematic, planned and dependably ensuring your future success?

How do you innovate in your organization?

Innovation takes a blending of leadership, culture, skills, and organizational structure. And, innovation can be learned and ingrained in your organization's culture. You can adapt the processes to develop and deploy new products and solutions for your organization that are practical to execute and that deliver end-to-end success.

Achieve Self-Sustaining Innovation

In a special 1.5 day seminar, our event partner, an Israeli-based consulting firm Systematic Inventive Thinking (or SIT for short)  will train you in the five patterns of the SIT Innovation Map. Read more about the seminar and who should attend from your organization.

SIT is unique in its ability to help companies invent inside the box, using only their existing resources. Because SIT is systematic, you will gain the ability to "innovate on Demand" using a proven, structured methodology to guide idea generation and implementation.

WCPE is thrilled to offer this time-tested and proven approach to innovation. SIT's "templates of innovation" have emerged from historical analysis of product development trends, which in turn grew out of research by the Russian engineer Genrich Altschuller. These patterns can help predict the emergence of new products before the appearance of signals indicating market demand. The patterns, or templates, are therefore useful not just for categorizing new product ideas but also for generating them.

Space is limited due to the intensive and interactive nature of this seminar.
