Spotlight Wall featuring Priscilla French

March 15 through April 8, 2018

wild side pc

Our  Spotlight Artist is well-known local musician, Priscilla French, Artistic Director of Portsmouth Pro Musica and the Sandpipers Seacoast Children's Chorus. Priscilla earned a B.A. from Beloit College and received her Master's degree in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music. She has studied with watercolorists Dewitt Hardy and Doris Rice.

Priscilla French's Artist's Statement reads:
I have always been a visual person. I see shapes, patterns (puzzle pieces) in a landscape and get excited about trying to paint the scene. (There is beauty everywhere, right?)  Sometimes what captures my vision is a striking color in a street scene or the abstraction of rocks. It's a natural attraction. The creation of a painting from start to finish involves careful study and solitude. (Please don't talk to me.) The process takes on a life of its own - and the end result doesn't always work. But I return to practice again and again because I'm a lifelong student.
I like self-improvement.

KAA Vision Verse poster
We invite you to expand beyond the title of your piece and accompany it with verse.

You do not need to be a poet!

However, you may want to submit a haiku, or a paragraph, lyrics from a piece of music or a piece of text from something you've read.

Example:  A photo of fog in Pepperell Cove...or a painting of your cat...might be accompanied by Carl Sandberg's poem about fog: "The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on."

Please send your verse to Betsy Wish ( [email protected]) with the following:

Title of your piece
Your name
The verse

Otherwise, you can type it out to submit with your artwork at drop off.
