"Art from the Sea"
All Member Show
Spotlight Wall - Susan Goodby
August 19 - September 10
Postcard Artwork by Anne Scheer
|
|
Opening Reception: Sunday, August 20th, 4 to 6 PM
Our
Spotlight Artist, Susan Goodby, shares her history and vision with us in her Artist's Statement below:
"Although my teachers thought I excelled in art in grade school more decades ago than I care to remember, I only took a few random art classes along the way to my degree in sociology. Art was not on my radar screen when it came to a career and consequently I spent a number of unfulfilling years working in insurance until an anticipated very early retirement allowed me to follow my interest.
After moving to Vermont, I took a number of local art classes then began a series of yearly art classes in Italy.
I started off in watercolor but quickly took up painting in oils which I worked in exclusively until a workshop in 1999 launched me on an intensive exploration of collage: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and florals. They were immediately successful and won me many awards.
I developed a habit of working in collage for awhile then switching back to painting, then vice versa, along the way also beginning to paint in acrylics.
More recently, after moving to Maine, I started using water soluble oils and love their properties which combine aspects of both regular oils and acrylics.
My work in art has heightened my sensitivity to the world around me, in particular color. I find the nuances of color infinitely challenging to understand. Through my art, I try to share my delight in the beauty of the world around me." ~Susan Goodby
