Martha Perin Community Fund Established
It's not every day that a teacher leaves a legacy as notable as Martha Perin.  Martha Perin was a beloved English teacher at Rushville, impacting many students and coworkers throughout her long tenure.

Martha's son, Keith Perin and his wife Kim, decided to honor his late mother's legacy by creating a fund in her memory at the Rush County Community Foundation.  He took advantage of the Lilly Endowment, Inc. GIFT matching dollars and opened an unrestricted fund, receiving $1 for $1 for his contribution.  The Martha Perin Community Grant Fund will provide grant funds to support needs for local nonprofit agencies and community projects.

"Decades after my mother's death, former students still tell me how much they loved her and learned from her.  She also loved her students and the Rush County community, so I think she'd be pleased that the fund in her name will help so many local people for centuries to come."

First grant awarded from Ewing Fund
The Rush County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the Rush County Community Assistance is the first recipient of the Helen & Jim Ewing Fund:  To Help the Elderly and Feed the Hungry.  The awarded $1,000.00 grant will be used to purchase milk for elderly Rush County residents that seek assistance from Rush County Community Assistance.

The Helen & Jim Ewing Fund was established in memory of his wife, Helen, by Jim Ewing in May 2014.  Helen and Jim took pride in assisting the hungry and those less fortunate, and Jim saw the potential in creating a fund to forever benefit Rush County individuals in need as a great opportunity to both make an impact and leave a legacy.  Proceeds are to be awarded annually as grants to provide funds to non-profit organizations that assist the elderly.  Grant funds may be awarded to agencies that provide food for those in need, agencies that support those who serve the elderly population, and/or agencies that assist the elderly with essential needs and services.  Priority is given to agencies in Rush County, but organizations from other counties who are active in serving Rush County residents are eligible to apply for this annual grant.

If you would like more information about the Helen & Jim Ewing Fund:  To Help the Elderly and Feed the Hungry or any of the more than 185 funds at the Foundation please contact the Foundation office.

Second Round of Community Grants Awarded for 2015
The Rush County Community Foundation's most recent grant cycle awarded funds to benefit two deserving community projects.  This is the second of the year's three cycles in which Rush County non-profit organizations can apply for funding for their projects.

Congratulations to our Cycle II grant recipients:  the Rush County Athletic Association and the Rush County Emergency Management Association.

The Rush County Athletic Association (formerly known as the Booster Club) received $6,800.00 to purchase new equipment for the Rushville Consolidated High School concession stands.  The new equipment will enable the Youth Athletic Association volunteers to sell concession foods, providing profits that purchase sports equipment, letter jackets, and to keep the costs of participation in athletics affordable for students and families.

The Rush County Emergency Management Association received the remaining $9,500.00 needed to purchase additional 800 MHz radios for the Emergency Management Mobile Command.  Federal and state mandates have required the new technology, but funding for the costly communication change has been limited.  Providing our county's Emergency Management Mobile Command with these new radios will be incredibly beneficial for emergency personnel communications, particularly in the event of an emergency situation.

These grants were made possible through the generosity of the founding contributors and donors of the following unrestricted funds endowed with the Foundation:
  • Laura May & Howard H. Brown Memorial Fund
  • H. N. (Doc) Thelma Jaggers Fund
  • Gerald W. and Anita J. Mohr Community Fund
  • Charles E. and Jane Power Niccum Fund
  • Pioneer Hi-Bred Fund
  • Rush County Community Fund
  • George Patrick "Pat" Todd Memorial Fund

Currently, all donations made to these funds are matched $1 for $1, increasing the amount of impact our community grants program is able to make within Rush County.

The Rush County Community Foundation impacted 10 community organizations in 2014 alone and has awarded 277 grants to date.  Donations made to our "Unrestricted Funds" have enabled these grants, now totaling disbursements of more than $895,000.
RCCF + Herdrich Petroleum
We owe a BIG "Thank You" to Herdrich Petroleum for their support of RCCF throughout the month of July.  The Shell/Quick Pix store and the Countrymark store competed to raise dollars and awareness for RCCF.  In total, $709 was raised for our community grant funds, one dollar donation at a time!  Because those dollars are matched, RCCF will have an additional $1,418 to benefit our grants program for years to come.

If you're in either store in the coming weeks, thank the wonderful staff for their hard work to assist with our fundraising goals.
RCCF Evening at the Riverside Park Amphitheater

On Saturday evening, August 15, the RCCF Board of Directors and Community Awareness committee volunteers joined hundreds of visitors for the Vicious Cycle (a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band) concert at the Rushville Riverside Park Amphitheater.

We had a beautiful evening and incredibly fun night handing out hundreds of free RCCF beach balls and bags of popcorn for concert-goers.  Awareness for the Foundation was raised as we spoke with those in attendance about the impact of RCCF and our current matching dollars available for community grant funds.

The Rush County Community Foundation is a proud sponsor of the Amphitheater.  The Riverside Park has also been a recipient of several community grants, making the sponsorship tent foundation, stage curtains, and an upcoming permanent addition to the park possible.  A BIG thank you to our wonderful volunteers for giving up a Saturday night to share RCCF's message with our community.
