Douglas Motorsports TORC Crandon Big House Brawl

The "Big House" is the home of some of Scott Douglas' biggest victories in short-course off-road racing. In recent times the three-time Labor Day weekend Cup Champion has dealt with a run of bad luck when the familiar AMSOIL Rusty's Off-Road Walker Evans Racing Cooper Tire truck has set its tires on the 1.75 mile off-road Super Speedway. The most recent visit, Rounds 5 and 6 of the TORC Series, saw Douglas Motorsports continue the run of hard luck.

In practice, the familiar white and black PRO-4x4 had the speed the team was looking for as the early season updates continued to pay dividends. The Friday session saw the top four trucks, including Scott Douglas, turn lap times within 0.75 seconds of each other.

The Saturday afternoon Round 5 saw the #7 AMSOIL Rusty's Off-Road Walker Evans Racing Cooper Tire truck get off to a great start. Douglas and Johnny Greaves were in a tight battle when Greaves spun out at the finish line corner. Douglas took evasive action and successfully avoided any real contact, but it did send the #7 truck to the back of the pack. By lap three a rear tire went flat requiring a stop in the hot pits. The tire change took the team out of contention for the day.

Overnight the Douglas Motorsports crew went to work on a few chassis changes looking to gain even more speed.

Sunday morning after a brief delay in the race program due to some overnight rain, the AMSOIL PRO-4x4 was looking for get back on the podium. Quickly after the land rush start, the transmission would periodically pop out of third gear. While fighting this driveline issue, Scott Douglas finished Round 6 in fifth place.

Immediately the crew went to work fixing the shift mechanism and preparing for the Forest County Potawatomi Community Heavy Metal Cup. At 5:15pm, the 10 lap sprint race began as light rain started to fall. Almost immediately the truck began to run on six cylinders due to an ignition issue preventing a serious run for the big money.

"This weekend start with some great lap times in practice," noted Scott Douglas. "When it came time to race, contact during the start on Saturday cut a tire taking us out of contention. Then Sunday's issues come out from nowhere. We've been running up front and just haven't closed the deal this year. My team continues to work hard ensuring that we get back on the podium. Bark River is next and it's a place we have had plenty of success. We have some time to correct the issues that surfaced at Crandon and look to be even stronger when we arrive in the UP.'

Douglas Motorsports has three weeks (July 15-16) to prepare for the "Throw Down in the UP" July 15-16 in Bark River, Michigan.
