     All eyes are on the River Market District this weekend as Riverfest, the largest festival in the state, becomes part of downtown! Riverfest presents the 4th Annual "Ruff on the River Pooch Parade" on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. See Around Downtown for links to more information.

     As the end of school nears, student visitors to downtown and our state Capitol increase.  Secretary of State Mark Martin welcomed almost 300 students on Tuesday from Nashville, Arkadelphia, Jonesboro, Hope, White Hall, Conway, Batesville Southside and Hazen as part of Music in Schools. ESSE Purse Museum recently made its national debut at the National Women's History Museum's annual Women Making History gala in Washington, D.C. ESSE Purse Museum owner

Anita Davis, a Downtown Little Rock Partnership Board member, and Women's Foundation of Arkansas executive director Lynette Watts were VIP guests at the on May 11 event.

     ESSE was invited to display at the gala a mini version of its permanent exhibit "What's Inside: A Century of Women and Handbags 1900-1999" 

to the 350 attendees.

     The Women Making History gala recognizes and honors women who have made significant contributions to their fields. This year's honorees were Dr. France A. Cordova, director of the National Science Foundation; Chief Cathy Lanier, Washington, D.C., Chief of Police; and Dr. Ellen Ochoa, director of NASA Johnson Space Center.
