Darrin Gray

Darin Gray will succeed Wayne Woods as chairman and CEO of CJRW, a Downtown Little Rock Partnership member. The announcement came this week following the advertising and public relations firm's move to 300 Main Street at the entrance to the Main Street Creative Corridor. Learn more.

 

CrossFit Composure is downtown's newest gym, located at 229 W. Capitol. Featuring locker rooms and showers, the 3,900 sq. ft. space is outfitted in brand new Rogue Fitness equipment with air conditioning, and a hang out lounge overlooking the space in the historic Sterling Building. nullThe University of Arkansas Community Design Center (UACDC) + Marlon Blackwell Architect announced today that The Creative Corridor: A Main Street Revitalization for Little Rock project has won Honorable Mention in Urban Design (Concept) of the International Awards 2015 sponsored by Architecture Podium. Learn more.

     The Creative Corridor retrofits a four-block segment of downtown Main Street, 3rd through 6th through economic development catalyzed by the cultural arts rather than Main Street's traditional retail base. Planning and design for the Creative Corridor was funded by a 2011 Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. A grand opening of the corridor is scheduled at The Rep on September 14.

 

Gretchen Hall, Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau CEO, said this week that more than 12,000 people have already visited the area in the last month. She added that the region has seen more than $5 million in economic impact from visitors and spectators for the U.S. youth soccer regional championship, the national quilting association and  ATA. This week sees more than 4,000 guests downtown for the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in town for their Conclave conference.

 

Made by Few, an up-and-coming national tech conference, will be held October 1-3 from the Ron Robinson Theater in the River Market District downtown. Designed for "makers of the web," it is attracting some of the nation's big names in web design: Tobias van Schneider, lead designer at Spotify; Randy J. Hunt, VP design at Etsy; Aaron Draplin, founder at Draplin Design Co.; Elana publisher at Gratuitous Type; Harper Reed, founder at Modest, Inc.; Christian Rudder Asti Huang, co-founder at OkCupid; Kyle Durrie, proprietor at Power and Light Press;
