Downtowner Shuttle Service Operator Selected
Tampa Downtown Partnership enters into an agreement with
Florida-based Downtowner Group to operate complimentary shuttle service

Tampa, Florida (August 29, 2016) - Downtown Tampa's highly anticipated, complimentary shuttle service is one step closer to its launch. Tampa Downtown Partnership (TDP) has entered into an agreement with Florida-based company, The Tampa Downtowner Group, LLC as the service operator. Downtowner is a rapidly growing shuttle operator with service in South Florida, Newport Beach, CA, and Aspen, CO. The agreement comes after two years of research, planning, fundraising and the selection process of an operator.

Downtowner is an app-based, on-demand shuttle service that will operate in Downtown Tampa seven days a week, using electric vehicles that carry up to five passengers each. Hours of operation will be Monday to Friday, 6am to 11pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 11am to 11pm. The downtown service operates within Downtown Tampa's business district, Channel District, River Arts District, the University of Tampa area, as well as the non-gated north end of Harbour Island.

"Tampa Downtown Partnership is committed to enhancing transportation options to support downtown's growing needs. This operations agreement with Downtowner will allow us to provide valuable 'last mile' service to residents, workforce, and visitors," said Greg Minder, Chair, Tampa Downtown Partnership Board of Directors. "This service would not be possible without the generosity of our public and private partners."

Downtowner will serve downtown's 8,100 residents, 58,000 workers, and a countless number of visitors. Here is how the service will benefit each of those three groups:
  • Residents can keep their cars in their garages, and perhaps they can even ditch one of their cars. Downtown residents are dog friendly and so is Downtowner!
  • Workers will have the option to park remotely and take a shuttle to their office; plus they can get a lift to their favorite downtown lunch destinations.
  • Visitors are able to park once and go enjoy the multiplicity of experiences Downtown Tampa has to offer.
"We're excited to help improve downtown's mobility and change the way people move in Tampa," commented Stephen Murray, Downtowner CEO and University of Tampa Alumni. "And the icing on the cake is we're adding 20 new local jobs."

Next Steps: Before launching the service, drivers will be hired, the vehicles will be branded, and a campaign will be launched to encourage future riders to download the Downtowner App which is available on iPhone or Android. An early fall launch date will be announced soon.
