2016 Hometown Heroes Banners |
The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) and City of Schenectady unveiled new 2016 Hometown Heroes banners Wednesday during a ceremony at downtown's Schenectady Armory. A total of 26 banners have been installed in round one. During the ceremony, banners honoring Schenectady's Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps service members were unveiled one-by-one by sponsors and honorees in attendance. The annual Kids' Arts Festival features a variety of entertainment, including The Puppet People, Mike Purcell, Incredible Larry, Tip the Clown, Mr. Twisty, and many more. Mopco Improvapalooza - June 3, 8pm Education Center - Features the region's best up-and-coming improvisors and improv groups together with Mopco for five evenings of rip-roaring improv creativity.
Merritt Dance Center - June 4, 6pm Mainstage - The performance will include a variety of dance routines. Highlights will include performances from the competition teams and a mini musical production of "Seussical the Musical."
The Dance Department's 16th Annual Production - June 5, 2pm Mainstage - "Fire Under My Feet"- Brings the audience through an underwater wonderland with beautiful dancers and beautiful costumes.

GE Theatre - Presented by It Came From Schenectady: The story of the renegade sound and visions of The Residents is clouded in mystery. Get an inside look this incredibly private collective with unprecedented access to their archives and their recent 40th anniversary tour.
GE Theatre - Caleb and Camille Fang are a couple famous for public stunts/comedy skits featuring their children. Now adults with successful showbiz careers, the two are estranged from their parents and lament their exploitation as kids.

The Schenectady County Convention and Visitors Bureau will publish a Fall-Winter 2016-2017 edition of a
Visit Greater Schenectady County Guide. Distribution will be outside the area, to attract tourists to the County. Companies wishing to advertise should contact Art Fredette at 729-9060 or email

Mopco has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise $12,000 for the renovation of their new theater in Downtown Schenectady.
The group recently bought the brick firehouse at 10 North Jay St. in Downtown Schenectady's Little Italy with conventional funding, plus a grant from the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority.
Mopco will transform the first floor of the building into a 70-seat theater for improv, music and film.
