Nominate a Hometown Heroes Banner Honoree

The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) and City of Schenectady are looking for nominations for the second round of banners to be installed in July. Banners will be displayed on light poles along State Street and around City Hall in downtown until mid-November (just after Veterans Day). 

Available banners have already been paid for by corporate sponsors! There is no cost other than the time required to gather information and submit your nomination. Do you know some who meets the criteria?

Schenectady's annual citywide Open House & H.O.M.E.S. Fair has a new component for 2016: The Downtown Residential Tour! 

Not only will you be able to tour a variety of neighborhood homes in Schenectady for purchase, but several new residential developments in Downtown Schenectady will showcase their upscale apartments and amenities. The self-guided tour will begin at the Jay Street Marketplace, where you can pick up maps. A variety of vendors will also be on hand for you to gather resources and ask questions about home buying. The Schenectady County Convention and Visitors Bureau will publish a Fall-Winter 2016-2017 edition of a Visit Greater Schenectady County Guide. Distribution will be outside the area, to attract tourists to the County. Companies wishing to advertise should contact Art Fredette at 729-9060 or email  [email protected]. The ad deadline is July 15.

Mopco has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise $12,000 for the renovation of their new theater in Downtown Schenectady.   The group recently bought the brick firehouse at 10 North Jay St. in Downtown Schenectady's Little Italy with conventional funding, plus a grant from the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority.  Mopco will transform the first floor of the building into a 70-seat theater for improv, music and film. First class starts July 11. Hands on learning for children entering kindergarten through 12 grade. Classes are 1 week long and run from 9am-3:30pm. Registration and prepayment required.

Meet a 22-foot-long T-Rex, tremble at a growling pair of dueling dinos, watch a dinosaur soar above you, and view a full nest of eggs ready to hatch. Discover 10 animatronic dinosaur throughout the museum. Learn all about these prehistoric creatures in the dino dig site, fossil rubbing stations, and other hands on discovery areas.
