The Lion King's North American Tour continues at the Landmark Theatre in Downtown Syracuse! Ceramics Symposium

The Everson Museum of Art is hosting a weekend-long symposium celebrating the opening of the new ceramics exhibition, "From Funk to Punk: Left Coast Ceramics." In a series of conversations, lectures and gallery tours, the museum will discuss the current dynamic artistic landscape with an emphasis on capturing the spirit and innovation of West Coast art, as well as the Everson's history of collecting and supporting this cross-continental dialogue. The registration fee includes a preview reception for the exhibition, access to all symposium lectures and events, continental breakfast at the Museum on Saturday and Sunday, and free admission to the museum for the weekend.

A Perfect Circle and special guests, The Beta Machine, will perform at the War Memorial this Sunday. The American rock supergroup, originally formed in 1999, is making headlines with its new song, "The Doomed." This is the band's first song in four years. The focus will be on the $5,000 Special Projects budget.  If you know of a special project that could enhance the downtown community, please submit it  here, or plan to attend the meeting to learn more information.  Proposals will be accepted through the end of January. 

In case you're not familiar with TNT, the organization is a group of neighborhood stakeholders with the collective goal to make Syracuse a better place to live. TNT builds upon community assets and develops workable plans and priorities for our downtown neighborhood.

Art Mart Opens Tomorrow!

Art Mart, a pop-up shop with unique and original gifts by local artists, opens tomorrow (Friday, November 10!). Come shop paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry and much more at the 499 Building at the corner of South Warren Street and West Onondaga Street. This is the second year Art Mart has been held in this location. It's open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday through Saturday, December 23. Please note, Art Mart is closed on Thanksgiving and on Sundays. 

Glazed and Confused to Open Next Week
Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 am

Glazed and Confused, the highly-anticipated artisan donut shop, will open to the public next Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 am, located at 221 North Clinton Street ( map). Customers can look forward to the State Fair favorite, "The Dizzy Pig," a donut dipped in maple glaze, topped with sprinkles of cured bacon and a bourbon-sugar drizzle, as well as other unique flavors including: Seal Salt Caramel Apple, "Elvis Strikes Back" (featuring fried bananas and peanut butter) and "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn" (a chocolate dipped donut with mocha butter cream). The shop will also feature classic flavored donuts, vegan and gluten-free options. There will be sandwich options available as well, called "doninis." These are essentially paninis, served on a cake donut instead of traditional sliced bread. One dozen donuts will cost between $11 and $19. Coffee, milk and iced tea will be available for purchase as well.

The Holiday Tree is Here!
November 24 is "Home for the Holidays"

The Holiday Tree is now in Clinton Square! In just a little more than two weeks, Clinton Square takes centerstage in a timeless Central New York tradition, with the tree as the centerpiece. Festivities begin at 6:30 pm on Friday, November 24, the day after Thanksgiving. There will be ice skating, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as a performance by the Stan Colella All-Star Band. After the Tree Lighting, bring your family to the Landmark Theatre. The Downtown Committee is partnering with Y94 and IHeartRadio to present a double-feature, including Home Alone and Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury

PS: Voting in the Downtown Committee's Window Wonderland Contest also kicks off Friday, November 24. So far, 22 businesses with street level windows have signed up to participate. Look for a link of the participating displays on the Downtown Committee's website. Voting will remain open through New Year's Day. Winners will be announced that week. There is $850 up for grabs in prize money, thanks to a grant from the CNY Community Foundation.

Presented by Advance Media New York, the weekend will feature real reindeer, a "smart" Santa experience and outdoor ice skating with Santa, street-side carolers, a walk along the Window Wonderland route, a free movie at the Landmark Theatre, museum exhibits and more! The Everson Museum of Art's Festival of Trees Preview Gala takes place on Thursday, November 30 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Tickets are $100 per person. However, if you purchase tickets before next Wednesday, November 15, tickets are $75 per person. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer, spirit tasting stations, and best of all, they'll get the first look -and chance to buy- one of the beautifully decorated trees. The Festival of Trees officially kicks off to the public on December 1st and runs through the 10th. It costs $5 for museum members, and $8 for non-members. Each day features performances from local musicians, performer and dancers.

Wins Four-Diamond Distinction from AAA

Congratulations, Marriott Syracuse Downtown! The hotel that was recognized as the "Best City Center Historic Hotel" by Marriott just a few months ago now has another award to add to its wall, earning a Four-Diamond rating from AAA. The former Hotel Syracuse celebrated its grand re-opening as the Marriott Syracuse Downtown in August 2016. In the next few months, there are plans to open a steakhouse on the first floor, and 54 guest rooms will be added to the second, third and eleventh floors. The goal is to have these additions complete during the first quarter of 2018 to be of service to the 40,000 to 75,000 expected guests for the U.S. Bowling Congress Open Championships between March and July.
