Do it right!
With just a little practice you'll master the 5 S's; the best way to flip on your baby's calming reflex...to soothe crying faster and boost sleep! (The 5 S's are: swaddling, the side/stomach position, shushing, swinging and sucking.)
In the womb, the sound is strong and rumbly!
Hissy, tinny sounds may soothe screaming, BUT to boost sleep your baby will do best with low-pitched sounds. Dr. Karp recommends special white noise for all babies...all sleep...all year!
Keep your baby from getting overtired!
During the first 3 months, keep your baby from getting overtired in the day by putting her down for a nap if she has been up for more than 2 hours.
Yikes! There's a Cave-man in your kitchen!
Starting at 8 months (to 5 years), our little kids are sort of primitive or uncivilized (in their words and impulses).
Toddler-ese lets you connect with your upset child!
Translate your words into your toddler's lingo with these 3 easy steps, use: 1-3 word phrases, repeat the phrases 5-10 times, and about 1/3rd of your child's feelings (using your tone of voice and gestures).
Give your tot lots of "time-ins"!
Time-ins are 1-5 minute titbits of your attention (play or cuddling) all day long (many times an hour!).
The more time-ins you give, the fewer "time-outs"
your tot will need.
