Greetings!

It is October once again in Colorado! The aspens are turning gold in the high country, (and also slowly here in town) as I speak. While my New England born husband always insists that the colors do not compare to the east coast fall, I say that seeing the gold against the clear purple/indigo October high country sky brings wonderment and joy to my heart.

The fall also is a time in the Traditional Chinese Medicine calendar of the lungs. The emotional energy surrounding the lungs is grief and letting go. I look back at my own life and the fall has in my past brought major transitions in relationships, school, living situations, closets, etc. Could it be that it is a natural time to let go of things that no longer serve us? As the trees prepare to drop their leaves, often we prepare to drop things that may be in our way of our higher goals in life.

Letting go is often not without pain and sadness, so grief is often the emotional residue of change. I have often found in clinical practice that a lung infection can sometimes follow a break up of a relationship, loss of a job or a person dear to us. So this is the season of the lungs.

Also I am seeing more protracted viral respiratory infections in my practice right now, so lung support is "in the air" so to speak.

Enjoy the fall colors wherever you are and be well!

Delayed Food Allergies Can be a Contributing Factor in Asthma and Other Chronic Illnesses
Testing for delayed food allergies is available at our clinic

The Delayed Food Allergy Syndrome (DFAS) is a valid and useful concept which unifies into one diagnosis symptoms so diverse and nonspecific that they are seldom thought of as a unit or as allergic. This condition occurs most frequently in childhood, but can also occur in teens and adults. Many physicians, and even some allergists, are unaware of the Delayed Food Allergy Syndrome or are doubtful of its validity. In spite of the fact that there is little data from medical research about this condition, it has gained its greatest acceptance amongst allergists who care for children. From The Online Allergist

Salt Spa in Boulder offers Haleotherapy
...a shameless plug for a local business!

In Colorado, many people live in a dry, polluted, and pollen filled environment. As a result, an increasing number of people suffer from asthma, sinusitis, and allergies. We brush our teeth each day and bathe our bodies, but there are few means available to clean out our lungs and respiratory tract. Respiratory tract hygiene can be achieved using Halotherapy! Halotherapy clears pollens, viruses, pollutants, and toxins out of the lungs, sinuses, and nasal passageways thus preventing illness, decreasing allergies, irritation, and inflammation in the respiratory tract. In our dry Colorado environment, your respiratory tract will feel rejuvenated with the regular use of Halotherapy. From Boulder Salt Spa

 Squash Recipes

October is a great time for squashes and pumpkins which in my mind are often interchangeable in recipes, as well as being a great source of fiber, Vitamin A and carotenoids, as well as Vitamin C. Enjoy the sweetness of the squash harvest! From Squash Recipes
