Helping "the needy" be "the needed"

Helping "the needy" be "the needed"

So many needs compete for our attention everyday.  Our jobs, children's schedules, family stressors, health challenges, economic duress, and so many other issues vie for our awareness making it difficult to focus on helping others. Though our intentions are often to give money to worthy causes and volunteer to serve, we can often find there is just not enough time or money to do what we would really like to do to make a difference.  However, there are small things we can all do everyday that don't cost money but can have a significant impact.  Calling a friend who has suffered a major health set back can completely change the day for that friend.  Praying with them over the phone for healing can help engage hope they have abandoned but are now reengaged to connect with.  Saying "I love you" to your children as they head out the door and asking them to really look you in the eye so they got how much you love them.  These are simple acts that cost nothing.  For a small investment of time or money you would be surprised how much impact you can have.  Many people who volunteer with Dreamweaver engage in writing, fund raising through bike rides, administrative assistance, and other modes of support.  Time and again their time investment provides enormous impact.  Our supporters who provide financial gifts move the needle with every dollar they give.  At Dreamweaver, we take funding seriously and make sure every dollar we receive is used wisely and with attention to the majority of the funds going to the projects and the recipients.  We take the needs of the people we serve as our highest priority.  Every decision we engage in considers the ultimate strategy we know is necessary to end poverty:

HELP "THE NEEDY" BECOME "THE NEEDED"

When our efforts are fashioned to help people do what they can do for themselves and create ways for them to feel valued, appreciated, and know their life matters, magic happens!  Read how we are making MAGIC around the world with your help and God's prayers being answered.

Educating
Teachers from Kimana School of Leadership and Professional Studies visit local primary schools to teach children with tablet computers
Technology has a profound impact on the futures of young people when they have the opportunity to access it regularly.  As part of an ongoing outreach into the local schools near Kimana School of Leadership and Professional Studies (KSLPS), we provide instruction using tablet computers. One of the most unique features of using tablet computers in rural schools is the plethora of materials that can be stored and utilized for the education of young people.  In one tiny 8 inch tablet, it is possible to store a small library of books, games, and photos that engage, enthrall, and lead the next generation out of poverty and into world leadership.
To watch children learning with a tablet computer watch this cool film on YouTube.

Healing
Junior working on his own child to help him heal from injuries sustained in traumatic birth
It's difficult to imagine how blighted healthcare is in Kenya or many places around the world when we see it from our vantage point in America.  Yes, it's true we have millions who are uninsured and our healthcare system is stressed and challenged, but it is still dramatically better than the poorest places on the planet.  Often there are deficiencies of doctors and other trained professionals who can provide medical care and this makes it difficult when people get in trouble and need a doctor.  For this reason, it makes sense to provide basic training for local people in remote areas so they can care for one another.  Recently, we worked with a local Maasai named Junior who wanted to learn how to help his own 2 year old son who cannot walk.  Working with Dr. Warren Bruhl, Junior learned ways he could administer basic therapy and also how he could work with some of his neighbors to help them as well.  After the training, many of Juniors friends were incredibly thankful for the instruction he received and look forward to his gentle care for them .

Playing
Edgar's son Fernando is happy with the new mitt and ball his dad just gave him.  Taken in the Dominican Republic
Nothing makes a child happier than receiving a gift and for a boy getting a mitt from his proud dad is out of this world!  During our last visit to the Dominican Republic, we provided fathers, mothers, and schools with sports items they could give to their children directly rather than our charity offering the gift.  It is profound when a father is able to give his son a sport gift he could otherwise not afford but with the Gear for Goals programs, he now has the ability to do something for his son he feels pride in doing.  In the Dominican Republic baseball mitts, bats, and baseballs are expensive.  A bat can cost as much as a month's salary for a typical laborer.  A mitt, about 2-3 weeks of his salary.  As a result, few men are able to provide these prized sporting items for their children.  But with Gear for Goals, fathers and mothers get to feel first hand the pride of their giving and the HOPE it brings.

Helping
Administrative Assistant Ms. Mia Zera has a passion for serving & loves working with Dreamweaver
Helping out and serving others has always been something that I am very passionate about. The opportunity to work as an intern for Dreamweaver International has been such a blessing! To me, showing love to others and helping those who are less fortunate is not an option but an obligation. With all the abundant resources and luxuries in the North Shore, it is easy to forget about the injustice that is happening globally, and even in our own country. Any effort to help, big or small, will make a difference, and there is nothing more beautiful than seeing and hearing about the difference you have made in someone's life!

RAISING $10,000 TO BUILD
Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital
Join our teams in a ride across Florida state or virtually to raise money to build Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital

DONATE & HELP TODAY

Over the past three years medical teams have provided advanced health care to some of the poorest people in Sub Sahara Africa. Thousands of man hours and great expense has gone into reaching many of these people with great success.  However, the construction of a modern hospital with laboratory & x-ray facility along with 24 hour overnight stay is necessary to properly help many of the neediest patients.  To fulfill the need, Dr. Scott Smith, director of Dreamweaver International, has put together a comprehensive plan and building program but we still need funds to complete the project.  A deep well has been completed and the hospital framing will begin this year with completion anticipated in 2014-15.

To help raise funds, we will host a fun and healthy ride across Florida.  We will be riding across Florida from Flagler Beach to Cedar Key. The ride begins May 24th continuing through May 26th. The ride will be 180 miles, but you are welcome to just ride one or two days if you like. We are asking all riders to raise $100 per day/segment.

All donations go to Dreamweaver International and are used to fund the building of Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital.

VIRTUAL RIDERS WELCOME!

If you are a virtual rider, grab your bike or stationary bike, and get ready to join us as we ride   across Florida

A few words from
Dr. Warren Bruhl
Dreamweaver Director
Everyday I awake with a clear intention.  I AM MOVING THE NEEDLE!  What does this mean?  Well, to say it another way, I am working toward changing the lives of the many voiceless people around the world who considered the needy.  But our vision is they will one day no longer say they are "needy" but are now "needed".  While there are countless charities, governmental programs, and many people who are seeking to untangle the twisted mess we call poverty, our desires and overall reach is small relative to what we are truly capable of creating.  With a highly developed culture of high speed communication and vast wealth spreading from America to Europe and into Asia, we have the know how to create amazing work.  But why have we been slow to change our thinking about our brothers and sisters who are in need around the world?  Well countless people will tell you it's because of capitalism.  Others will say it's because of political corruption.  Still some say it's the low aptitude and desire of the poor to lift themselves out of poverty.  While these are only three of the arguments explaining the "why" of poverty, they are not the "how" of what we are doing to shift the lives of "the needy" to become "the needed"  When we begin to ask the right questions like, "how can we engage the lives of these needy people into a process to become needed?  This directive helps sets in motion the ways we must act to accomplish this ideal.

Thank you for your generous support and prayers to help our mission to help the needy become the needed again around the world.  Together, we do make a difference in the lives of billions.  Every dollar, every prayer, every gesture of love makes a difference.

Sincerely,

Dr. Warren Bruhl
