Helping "the needy" be "the needed"

Dreamweaver supporters have been very dedicated and active during the past month and remarkable progress is occurring.  Last month, Dr. Scott Smith hosted a dinner benefit to raise funds for Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital (KMH) and he rode across Florida with a team in the Biking for a Higher Mission ride. Generous donations poured in from all over the country and people got behind the vision to bring a change to Kenya.  In addition, Dr. Warren Bruhl and his daughter traveled to the Kenyan bush to work with local schools and help education in the Kimana School of Leadership and Professional Studies (KSLPS). Working with Mr. Joseph Nkaapa, Gear for Goals (G4G) baseball coordinator in Kenya, Dr. Bruhl went to five schools in the Kimana Rift Valley and provided thousands of children with instruction and equipment.  In addition, Montana taught students dance and worked to inspire their artistic talents.  She also met with KSLPS students daily and helped them gain insight into American culture and the requirements for academic success in the United States.

Among the other exciting news, Dr. Warren Bruhl and other Dreamweaver leaders met with the local Kenyan Member of Parliament, Mr. Katoo Ole Metito.  They discussed the role of digital learning in the schools and the possibility of bringing advanced educational programs to the Kenyan children countrywide.  Mr. Metito was pleased with the presentation and has promised a future meeting with President Kenyatta of Kenya.  Dr. Bruhl will be traveling back to Kenya with other educational leaders to meet and formulate a program to raise the economic possibility for Kenya.  There are so many adults and children with promise in Kenya but they need a chance.

Educating
Montana Bruhl and Maasai girl, Lilian worked together to help other students in local schools.  June-2014
Visiting local schools providing dance instruction and inspirational insight into what is required for success, Montana Bruhl met a special friend.  Lilian is a bright 15 year old primary 7 student (7th grade in US) in the Enkai School in the rural bush area outside Kimana, Kenya.  From the moment Montana began instructing dance techniques, Lilian stood out as a leader demonstrating talent and poise.  She seemed to exude something special and had very strong leadership.  We learned she was the head of her class but would be unable to attend high school because the family cannot afford to send her.  As a result, Montana decided to raise funds and create a scholarship for Lilian.  Her goal and Dreamweaver's goal is to provide education through college.  Lilian has a dream of becoming a pilot so she can help her mother and five brothers have a better life.

Healing
Mr. Wilson Samoire, a local Maasai, gave instructions to his neighbors about proper spinal care.
June-2014
On a recent visit to Kenya, Dr. Warren Bruhl provided chiropractic care in the Kimana free medical clinic hosted by Dr. Amos.  Dr. Amos is a local physician who provides care to patients who cannot afford typical fees at the Loitoktok Hospital.  Dr. Bruhl has been developing chiropractic and physical therapy care in the area since 2012 and patients really appreciate the hands on natural healing of chiropractic.  Moreover, chiropractic care helps create a comprehensive system of care to treat the whole patient.

Dr. Bruhl also introduced the BFF Body Buffer in his treatment program to rave reviews by patients.  The BFF is a powerful muscle healing device that can really help the debilitating muscle and joint pain so many Maasai suffer with because of the hard living conditions.

Dr. Warren Bruhl and G4G Kenya director, Joseph Nkaapa worked with thousands of children including these young Morani warriors from Enjeketa Boma - June 2014
Our 4th trip to Kenya in two years was met with huge success.  On this recent trip, we cleared the fields for Mt. Kilimanjaro Little League to begin later this year and continued instruction in six schools in the area.  We have a strong development of players and programming and we look forward to an amazing future for our children in Kenya.  It is our mission to take a fortunate and strong group of young leaders to Williamsport, PA to play in the Little League World Series in the next 5 years.  Ambitious?  Well, we believe we have the talent and the hunger in these children to make it happen.  Moreover, our strong donor support and established relationships in Kenya make this a real possibility.  We do need further support to make this happen.  Coaching is needed from volunteers who may want to visit and help our staff.  Local alliances with schools, clubs, and organization who want to continue to locate sports gear for donation is needed.  Monetary gifts are required to help fund bag shipping fees and purchase of bags.  The average cost to ship a 50lb bag to Kenya when we travel is $200.  Moreover, your gifts will help us purchase baseball field requirements (fencing, grass, tractor, lining eq., bases, benches, signage etc)

Helping
12-year old Maritei with his new ball.  His 1st soccer ball!  He had been praying for 1-yr for God for a soccer ball.
11-year old Colin Redmond purchased new soccer balls for us to give to children in Kenya
11-yr. old Colin Redmond is like any boy growing up America.  He has lots of friends, loves sports, and goes to school.  However, he also has one other attribute.  He cares deeply about others.  As a result, he donated several G4G soccer balls to children in Kenya and we were able to provide them on our recent trip.  One of the recipients, 12 yr. old Meritei Anyika, could not believe a boy he never met living 10,000 miles away cared about him and wanted to give him a gift.  When our team told the boy he would be receiving the ball as a thanks for his hard work helping our team during our visit to his school, he was nearly in tears. Meritei then said he would like to write a note of thanks back to Colin to thank him for the ball and the letter Colin had written ahead of time for our team to take along and present when we located the recipients for the soccer balls. This act was a remarkable gesture of love and compassion and we were thrilled to be part of bringing HOPE to Meritei and others in Kenya with Colin's gifts.

Biking for Higher Purpose

Raises over $7,000!
Dr. Smith and Beret Smith organized this ride and helped raise awareness and hope for the people of Africa

Over the past three years medical teams have provided advanced health care to some of the poorest people in Sub Sahara Africa. Thousands of man hours and great expense has gone into reaching many of these people with great success.  However, the construction of a modern hospital with laboratory & x-ray facility along with 24 hour overnight stay is necessary to properly help many of the neediest patients.  To fulfill the need, Dr. Scott Smith, director of Dreamweaver International, has put together a comprehensive plan and building program but we still need funds to complete the project.  A deep well has been completed and the hospital framing will begin this year with completion anticipated in 2014-15.

Riding for a Higher Mission was a huge success and we thank all of the donors who got behind this program.  Over $7K was donated to help containing building and bringing healing to thousands who live with deplorable health care.  Thousands die needlessly and while visiting on our recent trip we witness why Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital will be so vital.  Two patients, one 41-yrs. old and an 11-yr. old died in a span of 2 hours while our team was visiting the hospital and helping with a local soccer team that plays near the Loitoktok Hospital (government run public).  Unfortunately, the conditions of this hospital are nearly impossible to describe to people in developed countries because many of us could never imagine having to visit a facility like this one.  But that will all change when Kilimanjaro Mission Hospital is complete.

A few words from
Dr. Warren Bruhl
Dreamweaver Director
Traveling to Kenya for the 4th time in two years, I always am amazed at the resourcefulness, hard work, and will of the people we meet and work alongside.  From the mamma with 5 children to feed who shows up at 6:30 am everyday to move dirt, cut weeds, and clear a field for the first baseball in field ever built in this region of Kenya, to the street vendors awaking early everyday and attempting to sell tomatoes alongside the road to receive a few shillings to feed their family.  Everywhere, people work, nurture their family, and want the same things we all desire.  Love, compassion, health, security, family, education, opportunity, purpose, and hope are many of the things we all desire regardless of where we live or our circumstance.  Each human being wants "TO BE NEEDED" As I continue along my personal journey with are friends who support Dreamweaver and the many we partner with around the world, I am convinced this is part of God's plan.  His greatest desire is that every child he has fashioned in his own image would be given the chance to soar and know his/her purpose.  Our mission is clear, HELP THE NEEDY BECOME THE NEEDED!
