Dear St. George Families,
So here we are, after the Fair, after conferences--"back to the grind" we may be tempted to think. But I'm reminded of the story of two bricklayers in medieval France who worked alongside each other. One bricklayer was a miserable cuss, always complaining about how boring and mind-numbingly dull his job was, "brick after brick, day after day, the same dang thing." The second bricklayer was the opposite. He was cheerful as he worked, smiling, often whistling happy tunes. After watching him for several months, the foreman became curious, so he asked the second brick layer why he was so happy all the time. The brick layer looked up, a little surprised, stepped back from his work, pointed at the structure they were building, and said: "I'm doing a great thing," he said, "I am part of building a cathedral!"
I think as we face the routine parts of our lives - for students, the classwork, the homework, the writing of papers, maybe the drudgery of athletic practice in the hot, humid afternoons-we're often tempted to see things from the perspective of the first brick layer: the same thing, over and over. It's easy for us to lose the big picture. But it's worth remembering that you, too, are building cathedrals. No, not the literally building. But yes, the cathedrals of your lives, places where God resides, sanctuaries. Our students work hard, and one day they will succeed in high school and college, they will become a good husband or wife, a good father or mother, a person of faith, a disciple of Jesus Christ. And if we take that big picture view, like the second bricklayer, I think it will help us be grateful for our work here, for this school, for our teachers, for our friends, for the challenges that stretch your children to become better students, better friends, better sons and daughters.
So my prayer for you is that God gives you grit and vision: grit to work through the "grind," but vision to see this is all part of  "the process." The process by which God is creating you to be the person he wants you to be, which will ultimately lead you to a happy, fulfilling life.
God bless,
Jack Nelson

St. George School will be having a Lockout drill on
Thursday, October 26 at 1:35-1:50
Students will not be  allowed to check out during this time
so please plan accordingly

A lockout drill is used to secure the perimeter of school if there is a threat in the immediate surrounding  area. As an example, this emergency code would be used if there was a robbery in the area and the criminal  has not been located. If the threat increases, the emergency would be upgraded to a Lockdown. At this  time, we are only practicing a Lockout. The procedures are as follows:
  • Students and teachers take shelter within a classroom.
  • All exterior building and classroom doors are locked.
  • Roll is called.
  • Blinds and door shades are closed.
  • Activity continues inside the classroom until further notice.
Don't miss your chance to shine on stage  with all of your friends!

Couple Checkup
Just as you would have your car serviced regularly and see your Doctor at least once a year, it is a good idea to have a checkup for your marriage to make sure you are keeping it healthy. As part of our support of marriages in our St. George parish, we are encouraging couples to take an online assessment of their relationship. Couples can take the assessment individually and then receive a 15 - 20 page report that will identify the strengths in their relationship as well as those areas that may need some growth. The assessment can stimulate some honest dialogue between you and your spouse and you can download a Discussion Guide to learn some important relationship skills. Couples can access the Couple Checkup at: www.couplecheckup.com . Click on the tab marked "Create an Account" and follow the directions. There is a $35 dollar fee payable by credit card that should be a worthwhile investment in your marriage.
