Dear St. George Families,

At our teacher In-service days I asked our faculty and staff an important question. "What's your why?" What motivates you to get out of bed every morning and go to school? Why have you chosen to be a teacher at St. George Catholic School? For our teachers the responses varied and it was clear that in most cases their "why" is that teaching is clearly more than a job or career...it is a vocation, a calling.

The same question has been asked of Catholic School families for many years. Why did you choose to send your children to Catholic School? In our case, why St. George Catholic School? The following list comprises the top 10 responses to that question.

TOP 10 REASONS TO CHOOSE CATHOLIC SCHOOL
  1. Opportunity for Academic Excellence and Formation in the Catholic Faith
  2. Emphasis on Moral Development and Leadership Skills
  3. Nurturing and Supportive Teachers
  4. Quality Teaching and Learning in a Faith-Based Environment
  5. Supportive Environment for Students to Explore and Express Their Individual
    Gifts and Talents
  6. Commitment to Student Growth in Knowledge, Skills and Values
  7. Strong Foundation for Academic Success
  8. Welcoming and Family-oriented Environment
  9. Safe and caring environments
  10. Opportunity for Before and After School Programs
We value all of our shareholders here at St. George. Our goal is to put students at the center of our focus. Meaningful relationships at home and school motivate students to do well in school. The positive, caring climate at St. George sets the tone for student learning. Our students reflect our attitude towards our school. Lets continue to be partners, to be connected with our Parish and School and support one another as our students grow. Our community blesses us.

God bless,
Jack Nelson
GIRLS UNIFORM BLOUSE OPTIONS
2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR
(Parents of girls, please read)

The below information was included in Dragon Tales on January 11, 2018. Please review the information to ensure that your daughter's blouse meets the new uniform requirements.
Pre-K-5th grade girls should be wearing the new white broadcloth blouse or the white oxford blouse as in past years. Only girls in grades 6-8 are allowed to wear the new white cotton polyester polo style (unbanded) shirt.
This information is also stated in the Parent Student Handbook. If you were inadvertently sold the wrong uniform shirt for your daughter, please return to the location in which you purchased the shirt for an exchange.
GIRLS UNIFORM BLOUSE OPTIONS
2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR
The girls uniform guidelines for the 2018-19 school year will offer a new blouse for the PreK-5th grade as well as an option for the middle school.
The new blouse for PreK- 5th grade is a white broadcloth blouse with a pointed collar and the St. George emblem.
While this is an option for 2018-19, beginning in the 2019-20 school year, all PreK-5th grade girls must wear the new blouse.
The middle school girls will have the option of the current white oxford cloth uniform blouse, with the button down collar and the St. George emblem on the pocket or the new option, which will be a white cotton polyester knit polo style (unbanded) shirt with the St. George emblem.
Both new blouses must be purchased at any of the three Baton Rouge Uniform Stores.

In honor and support of SGS Dragon, Emmy, we've signed up for the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, and we need your help to reach our fundraising goal. Support us by joining our team, donating to our team, or by making a donation to a team member.

Why we support St. Jude:
  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% when we first opened our doors to 80% today. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer. Join Team HERE
ST. GEORGE FAIR NEEDS

KIDDIELAND: The St George Fair needs Pre-K and Kindergarten parents' help to plan and make improvements to the Fair's Kiddieland each year . We are hoping parents can help promote games and activities for children from 3-6 yrs of age. The games have already been planned for this year, but we would still ask for a team of 4-6 parents this year to assist booth chairs Terri Barksdale and Julie Terrell. If you are interested, you can contact Terri or Julie at (tgbarksdale@gmail.com) or (jujuterrell@aol.com).

ARTS & CRAFT BOOTH: The Arts and Craft Booth is in need of donations of craft items to be sold in the booth at the Fair. Bring donations to the Church office.
