Dragon Tales  Weekly Newsletter
January 19, 2017

Dear St. George School Families,
Happy New Year! Although the Christmas Season has come to a close I wanted to share a short story with you. There is a Peanuts cartoon showing Lucy going to visit Charlie Brown. Upon arriving, she wishes him a cheery "Merry Christmas!" Then, explaining the purpose of her visit and her cheery greeting, she says, "At this time of year, we should be kind." "Why at this time of year only? Shouldn't we be kind all year long?" Lucy looks equally puzzled and snaps at him, "What are you? Some kind of religious nut?"

During this past Christmas season, many of us reached out to help and support others. This is outstanding - but how about the rest of the year?
People often talk about getting into the "Christmas spirit"; do you have to be "some kind of a nut" to do this year-round?

Kindness is the music of life. May kindness and caring be with you this New Year!

God bless,
Jack Nelson

     Catholic Schools Week

  Now Through Friday, January 27
Every year for Catholic Schools Week, each school in the Diocese is asked to collaborate and bring items for Catholic Charities. Our items help Catholic Charities to continue their mission and help each family that is in need of a new start. This year St. George School is being asked to bring in new kitchen supplies: pots, pans, cooking utensils, kitchen towels, bakeware, plates, cups, saucers, etc.
Monetary donations to be used to purchase kitchen supplies are also welcomed.
SGS 2017 Distinguished Graduate
Every year during Catholic Schools Week, each Catholic school recognizes one of its alumni as its distinguished graduate.
This year Jimmy Lamy, a 1982 graduate of  St. George will be honored at the Distinguished Graduate dinner on Monday, January 30th at the Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge.
Jimmy continues a family tradition of faith-filled service to his church parish community, one that began with his parents and siblings as long time parishioners of  St. George Catholic church.
As a young child attending St. George School, Jimmy Lamy learned the value of a Catholic education. It is a lesson that has served him well in a 25-year career as a probation officer for the U.S. District Court in New Orleans.
"My Catholic education taught me that my faith was an integral part of everyday life and not just an obligation to attend church on Sunday," said Lamy, who was selected as the Mr. Lamy, a member of Holy Name  of  Jesus  Church  in New  Orleans,  has served
the  parish in a number of capacities, including men's club president, eucharistic
minister, lector, catechist and confirmation prep teacher.  He was the recipient of the Jesuits of New Orleans Homines Pro Aliis Award and the Archdiocese of New Orleans Order of St. Louis Medallion.
Congratulations Jimmy!
