Are you the arrow heading for the target or are you the target being hit by the arrow?
 
This is an important distinction. When you are the target, life comes at you and you have to take what's coming and either allow it to land or deflect it. The perception is that there is no choice in the matter.
 
But you do have a choice when life is coming at you with challenges and adversity that are stressing you out. This choice is true autonomy and freedom.
 
You have freewill to choose how you will meet your challenges and stress triggers. You can be autonomous when you stand up for yourself and make choices based on being true to yourself. This takes courage to stand in your own circle of empowerment.
 
You can react to the personalities or events around you that create drama, distraction and energy loss and be pulled into the drama. This can cause you to feel self-pity or to feel like a victim when you allow yourself to be impacted by the stress induced by others and events beyond your control.   
 


You can also choose to respond by owning what is in your circle and what belongs to someone else. Draw a boundary about what is your stuff and what is their stuff. Then you don't have to take things personally and can give the other person space that won't drain your energy.
 
If your stress is yours to own, then you can assume authority for your heart's desire. Take responsibility for your life choices regarding your work, your health, your finances and your relationships. When you take care of what is truly in your circle and determine the steps you can take to start changing your reality, this is when you can meet stress with an approach that supports you to grow from your challenge and come out the other side of it successfully.

So when you don't feel in control of your life situation or you feel like the target of life and everything is coming at you, you actually want to lean-in to your inner tools and resources to make the changes you want to make. The inner tools and resources are what I teach my clients to integrate into their daily lives.
