As a busy August draws to a close we would like to thank our maintenance team for all that they do in keeping the course in its best possible condition. With hot, dry and often windy summers irrigating the golf course is a constant focus for Martin McGavock our Golf Course Superintendent. We are delighted to see the course stronger than previous years which is resulting in some fantastic playing surfaces for our members and guests to enjoy!
Care of Your Course
In keeping the course the best it can be, we would ask that ALL players help us in the following area’s:
Pitch marks - Despite all the lessons from the Pro’s applying back spin to the ball in windy conditions is not an easy feat. Be aware that where your ball stops on the green, maybe a distance from where it actually lands. Please be prepared to walk back down the green and hunt for the pitch mark your ball made. Whilst you are there I am sure you will see other marks … So support the Golf Gods and repair a couple more... Your luck will be returned!! (pitchforks available from the starter – if your old one has worn out).
Cart Parking - Despite a very young and active membership we still have players choosing to park their Golf Cart just off or in some recent cases actually on the tee box. Where possible PLEASE keep the carts to the path, the weight of the vehicle does cause wear to the grass which in turn affects the health of the plant.
Starter and Player Assistant - The team on course are there to help all groups get around the course in a suitable time which reflects the volume of players on any given day. If you are asked to catch up with the group in front – it’s purely to help all other players enjoy a smooth pace of play themselves. Your support to the above is always appreciated!

Academy News
On Friday 25 th August we held our junior medal series for the month. This tournament was played over 9 holes in some real testing windy hot conditions on the Dye Championship course. The winner with 20 stableford points was Libada and runner up was Farid with 19 points. Great performance by Libada in achieving her first individual tournament win. Winner of the “wee wonder” category was Ali with great gross score 45 (from junior tees) and runner up was Alex – only 7 years old – with an impressive score of 50 for 9 holes from the junior tees. Well done to all our juniors who took part and keep loving the game!

Head Pro Tip of the week “understand the effect the lie of the ball will have on the shot". One of the common areas being covered with our students is understanding the impact of certain lies we dace when playing the Dye Championship course. All too often I see students trying to play the same shot, same technique, same club – from totally different lies in the rough AND bunkers. All of our on course playing lesson focus towards understanding the impact of the lie and how it should be approached by the golfer. If you want to improve consistency, then I would highly recommend getting yourself booking in with a lesson and start understanding what shot to play from each lie on course. I guarantee this you will walk away from the lessons with a better understanding of what you have to do to become a “smarter” player
