The Dunton Post
ISSUED BY THE ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Society President's Letter
A new Board of Directors and Officers of the Arlington Heights Historical Society take over for the new fiscal year starting in May. It has been my honor to serve on the board for the last six years and I have been so impressed with the dedication of our volunteers, administrator, staff, fellow directors, and our partners – the Park District and Village of Arlington Heights. There have been so many improvements due to the creativity, talent and commitment of this group and with the help of funds raised by our memberships, donations and events.
So much has been done! Our curator has been working on many years of backlog by preserving and cataloguing collection donations. Our administrator and staff have created new programs and summer camps, a Pop Factory exhibit with a children’s play area, organizational and building improvements and have so many plans and ideas in the works for years going forward. Our board supports the museum, advises, volunteers and fundraises so visitors can view the collections that tell the stories of our history. Our volunteers man the gallery, care for the gardens, conduct tours and help research and preserve documents and photos in our history library. The Park District has created new marketing and branding, supported staffing and helped streamline processes. The Village has helped improve, repair and renovate areas of the museum campus.
There’s still so much to do! We have an amazing treasure of buildings and artifacts that can be preserved and presented to the public and we’ve only scratched the surface. If you have an interest in any of these activities and would like to participate, please contact the staff - they would love to hear from you! We always need new ideas and help. In addition, the board is currently accepting applications for new board members. If you are interested in helping to preserve the history of Arlington Heights, meeting new people, reaching out to the community, and are willing to help the Museum reach new heights, we want to hear from you!
Congratulations to our new Board and Officers – we are in good hands. As I leave the board, I remain a volunteer. See you at the Farmers Market!
Sincerely,

Gloria Amling

April Recap
School and Scout Program

Over 100 school children (PreK-2nd grade) came through the Museum on field trips this month. The children learned about early farming chores, the spring season and different types of pollinators through stories, activities, and crafts.

We had 50 Girl Scouts visit the Museum earning the Celebrating Community, Social Butterfly, and the Brownie Way badges.

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner
April 26

The annual dinner event, sponsored by the Historical Society, will be held at the Museum. The dinner is especially important to the Historical Society Board and Museum staff as it is a time to personally thank all the wonderful, dedicated volunteers who have helped the Museum this past year. Volunteers worked at events, helped Stephanie, the Museum Curator, catalog donations into the collection and gave tours.

This year's entertainment will be given by the Museum's very own, Lauren Szady. Lauren will transport her audience to the WWII era, offering a glimpse at life on the home front.

Becoming a Museum volunteer is easy! We invite youth and adults to sign up and support our Museum!
The Museum is growing and we need your help! There are many opportunities available for everyone!
